There's a new Slingbox. Believe it? You better. After almost four years, Sling Media has finally introduced two new pieces of hardware this week. The Slingbox 350 and 500 are the new boxes on the block, with the 500 being the one to snag for those who need Wi-Fi built right in. The company's prior boxes required a direct hardwire Ethernet connection, and even the new 350 strangely omits inbuilt Wi-Fi. But, there's a definite boost in quality. Sling Media has become a massive force in the home entertainment realm. Their Slingbox units have allowed people to watch television all over the world, and with the explosion of smartphone adoption, consumers have been yearning to watching Slingbox material right on their phones and tablets. And since day one, the iPad looked like a great candidate to watch Slingbox material on. And now, it can finally do so. Sling Media has just revealed that the SlingPlayer Mobile player for Apple iPad is now available, enabling Sling SOLO and PRO-HD owners to stream material from their television onto the tablet.... Soon, Dish subscribers will be able to watch live television via their mobile devices at no extra cost. In September, Dish Network is planning to launch an app for the iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, and BlackBerry devices that will enable this functionality. An app for Google's Android OS will launch in October. In order to take advantage of the new feature, users will need the mobile app as well as special hardware. One option is Sling Media's SlingBox, which sells for $180 to $300. Alternatively, Dish subscribers could opt to upgrade to Dish's high-definition digital video recorder with SlingBox features.... Major League Baseball is joining the growing ranks of companies who are less than enthusiastic about the "placeshifting" feature.  Here's a tidbit from Ars Technica: "Like other professional sports leagues, Major League Baseball is jealous of its content. The latest company to come under its scrutiny is Sling Media, makers of the Slingbox television place-shifting device. According to The Hollywood Reporter Esq.
