Who could have imagined?  Free shipping is a crime?  In France, it is.Amazon.com said on Monday that it would rather pay €1000 a day in fines than abolish its free shipping on books in France.Free shipping from Amazon.fr is apparently a violation of a 1981 law that was passed to ensure the French public receives equal access to all forms of literature.The Lang Law (81-766 August 10, 1981) says that the selling price of books must be indicated by the editor on the cover, and that any retailer is required to sell the work at a price ranging between 95% and 100% of the price indicated.... Finnish phone giant Nokia is shipping their eagerly anticipated N95 handheld computer. It got a 2.8" display, and a nifty two way slide to expose a keypad for entering text if you slide it out one way, or controls for the media functions if you slide it out the other direction. Nifty. There's very little in life that we like more than new product launches drawing near.  We love the hype, testing new hardware, and reporting all of our findings to you.  Of course there are launches, and there are dreaded paper launches.AMD still hasn't officially launched their K10 line of CPUs, but it looks like the official launch date is looming, as it is being reported that AMD has now shipped K10 based Opterons to system builders.  This means that the K10 launch will be a real launch, at least for Opterons.  Hopefully CPUs for other sockets are ready to ship as well. “Although the frequencies... The blokes at the inquirer have pointed out that Samsung is now shipping laptop hybrid drives to its customers: "The MH80 series comes in 80GB, 120GB and 180GB sizes. The 2.5-inch drive has 128 or 256MB of flash memory and combines mangetic [sic] optical characteristics. Samsung claims it will give faster boot and resume times, better reliability and increased battery life." Samsung also manufactures desktop hard drives, but no word on when they will go hybrid. Digitimes has reported that Chinese media are confirming Asustek Computer has been shipping production Playstation 3 gaming consoles in small volume since the beginning of July. The first consignment should result in roughly 4 million units in total with a significant amount remaining to ship before the console officially launches on November 11. This flies in the face of rampant rumors the last few months in which the maturity of the console was called into question and delays were claimed to be absolute.
