Good news for the AMD faithful who are attracted to Samsung's Series 5 thin and light notebooks. It appears Samsung has decided to play both sides of the processor ball field, including not only Intel Ivy Bridge configurations, but also a couple of models that boast AMD's Trinity-based accelerated processing units (APUs) inside. The Samsung Series 5 535 13.3-inch (1366x768 resolution) laptop sports an AMD dual-core A6-4455M APU clocked at 2.1GHz, Radeon HD 7500G graphics, 4GB of DDR3-1333 memory (supports up to 8GB), 500GB 5400 RPM hard drive, 1.3MP webcam, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GbE... You know we're always looking out for you guys and gals, right? Good, because it's in that vein that we want to give you a heads up on a semi-killer deal for an Ultrabook. Daily Steals, a site we've ordered from before, is selling a refurbished Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook for a low $600. Ignoring the fact that this is a refurbished item (with 90-day warranty), this is one of the lowest prices we've seen for an Ultrabook. Let's start with the good. We've already told you the price, but what about the specs? Well, it's a 14-inch Ultrabook with an LED-backlit display. It has an Intel Core i5 2467M... Read more...
Google’s Chrome OS hit the ground running well over a year ago with the introduction of the CR-48. That little black laptop shipped out to a handful of early adopters who put the very first Chrome OS builds through their paces. It was new. It was refreshing. It was different. But was it cut out for mainstream use? In Google's mind, the answer was always "yes." They then took the next year to respond to criticisms from the CR-48 launch, and at this year's Google I/O conference, out popped two more Chrome OS-based laptops, dubbed Chromebooks. Acer's AC700 and Samsung's Series 5 were first out... Read more...
Google's Chrome OS came close to being labeled vaporeware after its highly publicized initial announcement, at least by some. But at Google, there was never any doubt about its future. Just as they have done with the Chrome Web browser, Google has poured tons of resources into Chrome OS. It's a radical system, no matter how you slice it. It's the world's first commercially available desktop operating system that relies almost entirely in the cloud. That alone takes a moment to digest. This whole thing started last year with the introduction of the CR-48. That little black laptop shipped... Read more...
Do you know what today is? You could answer 'Wednesday' or 'June 15, 2011' both of which would be correct responses. But it's also the day that, at long last, the first notebooks built around Google's Chrome OS are shipping. We're of course talking about Samsung's Series 5 Chromebook, and if you missed out on ordering through Gilt a couple of weeks ago, now's your chance to jump on the Chrome OS bandwagon. Samsung's Series 5 Chromebook is available at Best Buy and Amazon.com, and will set you back $430 if all you want is Wi-Fi connectivity, or $500 if you want the 3G radio. The relatively high... Looking to use that spare CD/DVD Rom drive you have laying, but you have no more room in your computer? It's a common problem, with an easy solution. PimpRig takes a look at the Enermax Laureate USB 2.0 Series 5.25" Optical Drive Enclosure, which aims to be a quick problem solver. "The Laureate has to have both the power cord, and the USB plugged in for it to function. The power cord measures close to 10.5', and USB cable is 6.5', which is ample length. The look is very streamlined and clean once all setup. Simply plugging in the USB to my... Read more...
