Back on November 13, Wal-Mart announced that it would price match select online retailers which included Amazon.com. However, consumers took advantage of this and were recently able to scam Wal-Mart into price matching Sony’s $400 PlayStation 4 for only $90. Proof of the fraud was noticed by CNBC as photos of receipts were posted on Twitter and Reddit by consumers who were able to get Wal-Mart to match the price of third-party sellers on Amazon by tricking the employees into thinking it was an authentic-looking Amazon page. The problem is, any Amazon member that has a registered selling account... Read more...
Kmart is the latest major retailer to fall prey to a hacker attack resulting in the theft of customer data. The company's IT department discovered a data breach in Kmart's payment data systems and immediately launched a full-scale investigation. With cloud services on the rise, monolithic companies such as Google and Apple have been building data centers all over the place in order to house... Read more...
If there’s been a more resourceful use of assets to bring profitability back to a huge company like Sears, we’d like to hear about it, because the company is looking to completely reinvent itself as a data center provider as its retail locations close. Sears Holdings has created a new unit called Ubiquity Critical Environments whose task is to take the company’s vast real estate assets--which Data Center Knowledge has pegged at some 3,200 properties comprising 25 million square feet of space--and turn them into data centers, disaster recovery sites, and communications depots wherein... RoxioNow really is everywhere these days. As the year draws to a close, Sonic Solutions has announced that their RoxioNow platform licensee Sears and Kmart have started their own online movie download service by the name of Alphaline Entertainment. The world probably doesn't need another movie download service at the moment, but with the winners and losers still being sorted out, Sears is hoping to branch out and find revenue from a very unlikely source. The new service enables Sears and Kmart customers to download entertainment online, including new movies on the same day they are released on... Read more...
