Panasonic and its subsidiary Sanyo (by way of a 50.2 percent stake in the company) both pleaded guilty in separate price fixing allegations involving automotive parts and battery cells, the United States Department of Justice announced this week. The two firms will pay a total of $56.5 million in criminal fines, while LG Chem Ltd., a leading manufacturer of secondary batteries, also admitted guilt and will pay a fine of $1.056 million. The DoJ accused Panasonic of conspiring to fix prices of switches, steering angle sensors, and automotive high intensity discharge (HID) ballasts installed in cars... Read more...
If you follow the rechargeable battery scene at all, then you're undoubtedly familiar with Sanyo's Eneloop brand, the go-to option for batteries that come fully charged from the get-go and don't lose their juice nearly as fast as your average rechargeable. But if there's a downside to Eneloop batteries, it's that they don't compete with higher capacity units. Or at least they didn't used to. Sanyo just announced a couple new additions to its Eneloop lineup, the Eneloop Pro and Eneloop Plus. The Eneloop Pro boasts a 25 percent higher capacity than regular Eneloop batteries, making it better suited... Read more...
So, you're a rock star? Wanna be famous? All that good stuff? Well, if you're a guitar player, you'll need the right tools, and Sanyo has a new tool to consider on stage. The KBC-9V3U Pedal Juice (a member of the Eneloop series, it seems) kills a problem that guitarists have had for years now: batteries. 9V batteries in particular. This device eliminates the need for carrying those around. It's a 9V Lithium–Ion rechargeable battery power pack that can provide up to 50 hours of power to a guitar effects pedal, and unless you're playing all night, the Pedal Juice also eliminates the need for... Pocket camcorders have come a long way. They started out almost entirely made from one single company, Pure Digital, and the Flip branding has now bled over into a generic term for a camcorder that fits in your pocket. Today, the world has a lot more options to choose from, including a new one from Sanyo. The company is expanding their long running Xacti lineup with a new 1080p model with a 3x optical zoom, proving that you don't need something huge to capture Full HD. The new VPC-PD2BK captures 1920x1080 at 30p, and it ships with embedded software for easy use and sharing on social networks. It's... Read more...

Just before the weekend, Sanyo held a lunchtime press conference in Japan to show off its latest line of Gorilla series personal navigation devices (PNDs), including the NV-SD740DT, NV-SB570DT, and NV-SB550DT.According to Sanyo, all three models significantly shorten the time it takes to detect your current location. By analyzing signals for the "location information," "time information," and "trajectory information" from four different satellites, the new PNDs are able to pinpoint your location in as quick as 10 seconds after boot. Serving as somewhat of a wet blanket, however, Sanyo also says... Read more...
Sanyo's Eneloop charging system has been growing at a rapid pace, but obviously not quite rapid enough. The company has just unleashed its latest in the line: the Eneloop Music Booster. As you might expect, this device is a rechargeable DV9V battery unit made specifically for music devices, and while most modern day music players will last at least half a day on a full charge, there's always that pinch when traveling where you just don't have time to sit by an AC outlet and let the battery recharge. Put simply, this device will recharge any portable unit that utilizes a 9-volt DC power source,... Read more...
Sanyo's Eneloop brand has to be one of our favorite new things going. We've already seen an Eneloop charging stick that is perfect for recharging weak gadgets, and now the next Eneloop device is one for warming your hands. Yeah, hand warming! As the gadget world branches out into wilder and wilder gizmos, Sanyo's Eneloop Kairo is an egg-styled device in white or pink (though the double-sided warmer also comes in silver), and are obviously designed to heat up your frigid hands in the cold, bitter winter. The device is somewhat smaller than a deck of cards, and while the single-sided version offers... Read more...

Let's face it: just about any gizmo worth using these days has a USB connector, and more often than not, it's actually charged over USB as well. But also, battery life has sunk in recent years as devices are made to be slimmer and hold less spacious batteries. The solution to this quandary? Sanyo's Eneloop Stick Booster, of course! For those unaware, the Eneloop line of rechargeable batteries have been around for a little while, and those that use them tend to swear by them. If you're alread on the Eneloop bandwagon, this product shouldn't be a tough sell. Basically, the Eneloop Stick Booster is... Read more...
Sanyo introduced the latest product in its Xacti camcorder series. The new DMX-WH1E is the same as the DMX-WH1 but with the added support for Eye-Fi cards. Using an Eye-Fi card, the camcorder can transmit still images and videos directly to PCs and to online photo sharing sites using a wireless LAN connection. As you’ll recall, the Eye-Fi card is an SD memory card that has wireless LAN capabilities. The Eye-Fi Share 2GB model is capable of uploading photos, while the Eye-Fi Share Video 4GB can upload both photos and videos. In order to add Eye-Fi functionality to the DMX-WH1E, Sanyo revised the... Read more...
Wow, who woulda thunk it? Just a few years back, solid state drives were found in only a few extremely high end notebooks. Today, we're looking at an SSD within a navigation system. Crazy, right? Over in Japan, Sanyo has introduced its NVA-GS1609FT and NVA-GS1409DT in-dash navigation systems, both of which fall in the company's 'AV Gorilla' line. Both systems are designed to fit in automobile dashboards and provide all the routing guidance and entertainment that's safe to enjoy while behind the wheel. Each system includes a QVGA (480 x 240 resolution) display and a 16GB SSD, half of which is dedicated... Read more...
You're probably pretty proud of that 24" LCD that you use to play the hottest titles at 1080p or above, but what if we told you those same games (and those same resolutions) could be seen on a 150" screen -- and you wouldn't even need a home theater space to make it happen? Now that we have your attention, take a close look at the coffin-like box below. That, believe it or not, is a projector.Just as netbook-like computing power was only possible by linking vacuum tubes and power cables in a warehouse, this is likely the first of many sure-to-be-smaller versions of Sanyo's short-range 1080p beamer....
