Apple's iPad has left an indelible mark on the Tablet PC universe. It wasn't that long ago when just about everyone gave up on the tablet. Just about every notebook manufacturer in existence tried their hand at making a tablet at one point or another, and just about everyone hung it up by 2005. For whatever reasons, tablets never managed to catch on in the consumer industry, but now, things are different.Consumers have shown a willingness to adapt somewhat and try new things. Some thought ultraportables would never catch on; their steep price tag and small screens didn't make sense to some, but... Read more...

The IdeaPad S10 netbook line must be doing well for Lenovo, because the company has just issued another one. Yeah, another one! Not that we have the nerve to complain, but they're sure doing a good job of crowding up their own space. We have to say, the Lenovo S10-3s strikes us as a netbook that we could get into, as its super-slim design is far more elegant than most rivals. The machine measures just 16mm, with other specifications including Intel's Atom N470/N450 CPU, a 98% full-size chicklet-style keyboard, Dolby audio, Wi-Fi, an Active Protection System (APS), VeriFace logins, built-in webcam... Lenovo's S10-2 is an somewhat of an odd proposition for netbook buyers. For those who completely missed out on the IdeaPad S10, this is a welcome update and a solid overall contender in the netbook space. For those familiar with the original, two feelings are apt to surface: bitterness and / or confusion. Indeed, the changes found on the IdeaPad S10-2 are minor, with most of the hardware remaining exactly the same. In fact, the vast majority of the tweaks are completely cosmetic, though we do think much thought went into this overhaul. Rather than dishing out a completely new netbook at the... Read more...
It's not often that you see a manufacturer release a self-proclaimed "incremental update" to an existing product (firmware refreshes notwithstanding), so Lenovo's new IdeaPad S10-2 is certainly noteworthy. The original IdeaPad S10 first surfaced last autumn, and rather than delivering a true successor, Lenovo has opted to dole out a Revision B (if you will) that is more evolutionary than revolutionary. Indeed, the entire machine is simply tweaked rather than overhauled, but there's no need to reinvent the wheel when the current one rolls fine, right?Among the most notable changes on the S10-2 are... Every sign we've seen thus far leads us to believe that netbooks are going to be very popular this holiday shopping season. With good reason, too – they fill a void which has existed since the dawn of mobile computing. Truly cost efficient, rugged, little notebook computers with enough processing power and screen resolution to get basic tasks done – nothing more, nothing less. Many of the large-scale PC vendors have already developed, or are developing, a netbook product for the end of the year. Dell’s Inspirion Mini 9, along with the Asus Eee PC and MSI’s new Wind netbooks appear to be some of... Read more...
Given that pocketbooks are hurting in the current economic climate, these new low-cost mobile systems become that much more attractive, besides being a downright exciting product category. Many of the large-scale... Read more...
Yesterday, at a posh New York hotel suite in Manhattan, Asus held a coming-out event that we decided to attend, mixing it up a little with the glitz-n-glamor set if you will.  With a Jazz band droning in a Miles Davis sort of groove permeating the air, some Champagne, and a sprinkling of model-quality hotties tip-toeing about showing off the wares, Asus wanted to make a statement about their new Eee PC S101.  Above all, this product is about quality and style.  Asus' new Eee PC S101 is a 10" Eee PC variant that comes pre-loaded with Windows XP SP3 and nearly identical specs... Lenovo's IdeaPad S10 is a 10" Netbook that sports low power consumption, ultra-portability, respectable performance and a well rounded feature set. It's built on Intel's new low-power Atom processor. Taking on such challengers as Asus' Eee PC and the MSI Wind, Lenovo offers this svelte machine for a modest $399 entry price point. While the S10's keyboard is a little cramped for a 10" netbook, we liked the machine's, build quality, fit and finish, and super-crisp LCD. Click the link below and check it out... Thermaltake is ready to formally introduce its Xpressar RCS100 Micro Refrigeration Cooling System, which was first shown off at Computex in June. If you haven't yet seen the Xpressar RCS100, it is somewhat similar to the famed VapoChill Vapor Phase-Change Cooling systems we have shown you a few occasions in the past, but Thermaltake's offering differs in that it utilizes a DC Inverter type micro compressor to cool the PC. In fact, Thermaltake is claiming to be the first to use such a design. To quote Thermaltake, the company summarized the Xpressar as "... a micro vapor-compression refrigeration... Read more...

Back when I was first stepping into the world of PC hardware, Diamond was quite a contender in the PC enthusiast market.  Historically known for their high-end "Viper" graphics product line-up, Diamond's name still strikes home with many a gamer. Unfortunately, back in 2001, Diamond withdrew themselves from the graphics market, leaving only two of their products available to consumer, the Rio Mp3 player and their line of Supra Modems. However, with the aid of Best Data, the Diamond brand has re-emerged and they have recently returned to the video market in hopes of turning... Read more...
