LG will unveil its flagship G4 smartphone later this month, but if you're looking for something to salivate over in the meantime, the company's display division just announced the launch of a quad high definition (QHD) LCD panel for smartphones with several noteworthy features, including richer and more accurate colors with a 120 percent color gamut. It's a 5.5-inch In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel with a 2560x1440 resolution, so in terms of size and pixel density (538 pixels per inch), it's already an impressive display, at least on paper. To make it even better, LG combined a blue LED chip with... Read more...
HTC just released its flagship One M9 smartphone in the U.S., priced at $649 unlocked. But that isn’t the only new smartphone coming from the HTC camp these days; the company just officially announced the One E9+ phablet for the Chinese market. Whereas the 5-inch One M9 makes do with a 1080p display, the One E9+ ups the ante with a 5.5-inch QHD display (535 PPI). Powering the phone is MediaTek MT6795M SOC, which is comparable in layout to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 (two Cortex A57 cores, two Cortex A53 cores). The smartphone is equipped with 2GB of RAM, and has 16GB of internal storage (expandable... Read more...

The release of Samsung’s Galaxy S6 flagship smartphone is just a few months away, but details about the device are leaking fast. Earlier this week, we learned that the standard Galaxy S6 would be joined by an “Edge” variant similar in concept to the Galaxy Note Edge. Today, we’re learning the full rundown of specs for the device courtesy of a screenshot from the AnTuTu benchmark. According to this latest leak of the European version of the Galaxy S6, its internal designation is SM-G925F. Rather than sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor — which is destined for U.S. market models — the European... Read more...
LG is probably getting a little tired of scraping for brand recognition versus big names like Samsung, Apple and yes, even Google.  However, the company is also likely taking solace in the fact that their smartphone sales figures are heading for an all-time high in 2014, with an estimated 60 million units projected to be sold this year.  Part of that success probably comes from private label sales of devices like the LG-made Google Nexus 5, though the LG G2 certainly sold its fair share as well. So, at the end of the day, LG is sort of the "sleeper" of smartphone makers and as a major... Read more...

You could make a strong argument that Samsung's Galaxy S5 is the top handset on the market right now -- we certainly thought highly of it in our review. That said, we were surprised to learn that Samsung just launched an upgraded version of its flagship smartphone that boasts a higher resolution display and faster processor. The Galaxy S5 has only been on the market for around four months, yet Samsung apparently felt compelled to swap the display for a Quad HD (QHD) screen with a 2560x1440 resolution -- up from a 1920x1080 resolution -- and trade the processor for a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 System-on-Chip...
