Sony is planning to cut the price of its popular PlayStation 4 console in Japan to 34,980 yen, or about $292 when converted to U.S. currency. The price reduction will go into effect on October 1, 2015, and only applies to Japan, though it's notable because it's the first time Sony has lowered the price of its PS4 system. If we're wearing our wishful thinking caps, we'd like to think that Sony might follow suit with a price drop in Europe to coincide with the Paris Games Week conference taking place later this month, which in turn could lead to a price cut in the U.S. market during the PlayStation... Market research firm NPD Group released its game sales data for the month of August, which were down 10 percent year-over-year to $207.9 million. This year's new releases just couldn't live up to the blockbuster titles that came out a year ago, including Diablo III for consoles and The Last of Us for PlayStation 4.This timer around, it was EA's Madden NFL 16 that topped the games sales chart, followed by Minecraft. Yes, Minecraft , and that's indicative of why sales are down. Having a game that made its first appearance in 2009 in alpha form and in 2011 as a polished product take the number two... Read more...

This news comes after Sony announced in March that the title would be delayed until Spring 2016, as the “game [became] much more ambitious than we originally envisioned.” Now that the finish line is in sight, Sony is happy to deliver a few details on the three physical versions of the game that will be available for gamers. The fist, of course, will be your bog standard edition which will give you just... Read more...
Sony continually patches its PlayStation 4 console, and if you want to help test future firmware updates, you now can. Ahead of its next major system software update, Sony has opened up a beta program and is inviting PS4 owners to sign up for sneak peeks at what's in the pipeline, and also to provide feedback on things that need improvement. A PS4 console is required (no surprise there), and you'll also need an Internet connection and a master account. Sub-accounts are not allowed to participate in the program. Sony also says to make sure you're a member of its PlayStation forums so that you can... Read more...
There’s no question that Sony’s PlayStation 4 is walking away from the Xbox One in the console sales race this generation. This is despite the fact that Sony has held the line on pricing, keeping its 500GB console at the $399 price point, while Microsoft effectively instituted a $100 price cut by ditching the Kinect camera, and later implemented a permanent price drop to $349 (not to mention numerous crazy bundle deals). But the sizable sales lead that the PS4 has over the Xbox One is of little concern to Microsoft’s Xbox execs. Rather, the company is more focused on improving the gaming experience... Read more...

Sony launched the service earlier this year, though unlike Sling TV,... Read more...
China is finally ending a ban on gaming consoles that has proven to be a real hindrance to companies like Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony. But before you ask, “I thought China already lifted the ban?” you have to realize that Chinese regulatory agencies only allowed consoles to be sold within the country if they were manufactured within the Shanghai Free Trade Zone. Now that Chinese officials have had a change of heart, manufacturers (both foreign and domestic) are free to build and sell their consoles anywhere within the country. Needless to say, console manufacturers are elated at the possibility... Read more...
Games publisher Ubisoft raked in significantly more revenue than anticipated during its fiscal first quarter ended June 30, 2015. According to the company's financial report, sales came to €96,6 million (around $107.9 million in U.S. currency), as opposed to its previous forecast of €80 million (around $89.4 million). The bulk of those sales came from PlayStation 4 gamers. Ubisoft broke down its sales by platform. Sony's PS4 topped the list by accounting for 27 percent of all game sales, more than double the Xbox One at 11 percent. It was also more than double of any other game console, as both... Read more...
Shenmue 3 is a game that was 14 years in the marking, and thanks to a record-setting Kickstarter campaign (the game raised $2 million in just 9 hours), we’ve seen that fans of the popular game series are still willing to show their support for creator Yu Suzuki. When the Kickstarter campaign was first initiated, gamers were only able to pledge their support for a digital copy of the game at a cost of $29. However, Suzuki has something up his sleeve for extremely dedicated fans of the series: This is one of the most requested items on the list, and we are very happy to be able to include the Shenmue... Microsoft made quite the impression at this year's E3. The company unveiled a fancy (and expensive) new Xbox One controller that you can customize to your liking, and even more appealing, Microsoft announced that it's adding native support for hundreds of Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One. Even so, gamers in Japan were largely underwhelmed by it all, as they collectively purchased just 100 Xbox One consoles two weeks ago. That's not a typo, folks. Media Create, a Japanese-language website that tracks video game software and hardware sales in Japan, pegged the Xbox One's sales at... Read more...
Earlier this month, the 1TB PlayStation 4 gained FCC certification, leading many to speculate that Sony would announce the capacious gaming console at E3 2015. While Microsoft delivered its 1TB Xbox One, a kickass Elite wireless gaming controller, Xbox One game streaming to Windows 10 PCs, and native backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 games, Sony’s E3 presser was pretty much a snoozefest with nary a mention of the 1TB PS4. That changes today with the announcement of the PlayStation 4 Ultimate Player 1TB Edition (say that three times fast) via Sony’s European PlayStation Blog. The console goes... Read more...
A good sign that you've managed to pull off something impressive is when even your arch nemesis is surprised at your accomplishment. That's how it went when Microsoft made the shocking announcement at E3 that Xbox One will be able to natively play Xbox 360 titles later this year. When apprised of the news, rival Sony could only offer props to Microsoft's engineering feat."It was surprising," admitted Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida. "I didn't think it was possible. There must be lots of engineering effort. They talked about 100 games, but what kind of games will be included. Is... Read more...
If you’re an ardent PC racing fiend, chances are that you either own or have heard of Logitech’s G27. The G27 replaced its predecessor, the G25, way back in 2010. The G27 has been a popular gaming peripheral (it supports the PC, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3) that not only includes a steering wheel and three pedals (accelerator, brake, clutch), but also a six-speed “H” pattern gearbox. But five years is a long time in the PC gaming industry and a replacement for the G27 has been long overdue. Thankfully, Logitech has a two-pronged approach for its successor. Logitech is introducing the G29 Driving... Read more...
