It looks as though PlayStation 4 gamers will have to wait at least another year before getting to spend some hands-on time with Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, the PS4 exclusive that was initially slated to debut sometime this year. Neil Druckmann, creative director of the game's development studio Naughty Dog, announced in a Sony blog post today that it's delaying the title until Spring 2016. Druckmann said that as more of the game and story line came together, it became increasingly clear that Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is a more ambitious project than Naughty Dog originally envisioned. As such,... Read more...
Chinese gamers that have been anticipating the arrival of Sony’s PlayStation 4 console will only have to wait just a little bit longer. Sony officially announced today that the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita will be available on Friday, March 20. Sony had originally settled on a January 11 launch date for its consoles, but was stymied by Chinese government. "The government asked us for final adjustments, which will take some time, so we decided to delay the launch date," said Sony spokeswoman Kaede Bun in early January. With things now firmly back on track, Chinese customers can expect to pay... Read more...
Comcast is one of only two companies (EA being the other) to be voted by readers of The Consumerist as the "Worst Company in America" on multiple occasions. It's fair to say the cable giant has an ongoing image problem, and Comcast isn't helping itself any by continuing to tick off subscribers, this time by preventing them from accessing HBO Go on their PlayStation 4 consoles. Much to the initial delight of PS4 owners, the HBO Go app arrived on the console on Tuesday. All a user has to do is authenticate the service through a cable or satellite... Read more...

Sony has found another reason to sing praise for its PlayStation 4 console, this time in celebration of surpassing 20.2 million cumulative console sales through March 1, 2015. The latest sales figures underscores the PS4's place in history as Sony's fastest and strongest selling console in the history of PlayStation. The more than 20.2 million unit sales is over twice as much as the 10 million Xbox One unit sales Microsoft last reported, though that was all the way back in November of last year. Millions more have undoubtedly been added since then, as Microsoft's been enjoying quite a bit of success,... Read more...
When Sony decided to auction off the very first of a limited run of special 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 consoles, it received a lot of attention, along with a bunch of bids. The highest came in at a little more than 15 million yen, or around $129,000 in U.S. currency. Well, it turns out the winning bidder may have been a bit overzealous -- for reasons unknown, the bidder backed out of the deal. The unfortunate thing about backing out of the deal is that the proceeds were to be donated to the Save the Children Japan charity, and $129,000 could go a long way. Fortunately,... Read more...
The latest data by NPD Group shows that sales of Sony's PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Microsoft's Xbox One consoles slipped 22 percent in January, though there are two reasons why that's not raising any red flags, at least not yet. The first is that a sales drop coming out of a busy holiday shopping season is to be expected, and the second is comparative -- sales of the PS4 and Xbox One are both outpacing their predecessors (PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360) by 60 percent at this same time in their respectively life cycles. Going head to head, the PS4 flipped the script and outsold the Xbox One in January... Read more...
Depending on the neighborhood, $129,000 could buy you a nice house. But for a Japanese fellow looking to own a piece of gaming history, that's the sum he was willing to pay for a PlayStation 4 20th Anniversary console. The reason he paid the enormous sum versus the going rate of $1,500 to $2,000 on eBay is because this particular version is labeled No. 00001/12300. Sony held a special auction for the first of a limited run of retro themed PS4 consoles. There were only 12,300 of these consoles made, a number that represents the original PlayStation's December 3 (12/3) launch... Read more...
Microsoft had a lot to celebrate during the closing months of 2014. The company’s Xbox One gaming console beat out the defending champion PlayStation 4 during the months of November and December (according to NPD Group’s U.S. sales estimates). Microsoft owes a lot of that success a $50 price cut which dropped the Xbox One to just $349 during the Christmas shopping season. Microsoft is even upping the stakes – starting today -- by extending the $50 price cut for the foreseeable future as it runs its victory lap. Sony, however, says that it isn’t focused on just the past two months of sales. It’s... Read more...
Microsoft reduced the price of its Xbox One console (and its bundles) by $50 during the holiday shopping season and saw a huge uptick in sales. The fun faded on Saturday, January 3 when Microsoft’s special pricing ended. However, the price cut was even to allow the Xbox One to surpass the PlayStation 4 in sales for the months of November and December (November was the first time that the Xbox One outpaced the PlayStation 4 in 2014). Microsoft smells blood in the water, so it’s going for another round of price cuts. Starting tomorrow, January 16, the price of the Xbox One will once again fall to... Read more...
In the race to sell the most game consoles, Sony suffered a slight setback when Chinese officials asked that it make adjustments to its PlayStation 4 (PS4) system before launching it in China. Sony originally planned to release the PS4 in China on January 11, 2015 (this Sunday), but has now postponed the launch to a date that's yet to be determined. "The government asked us for final adjustments, which will take some time, so we decided to delay the launch date," said Kaede Bun, a spokeswoman for Sony. As for when the new launch date will be, Bun said Sony would offer up more details at a later... Read more...
Console gamers continue to flock to Sony's popular PlayStation 4 console with sales to date topping 18.5 million units, the Japanese company announced today. During the holiday season, various sales and promotions helped the PS4 notch more than 4.1 million unit sales globally en route to becoming the fastest selling PlayStation hardware of all time. Microsoft has yet to release current sales figures that take into account the holiday shopping period, but barring any surprises, it's likely the PS4 will still come out slightly ahead. That's been the trend in the current generation console wars, save... Read more...
First of all, to those of you returning from vacation over the holiday period and hopping back online for the first time since 2014, Happy New Year! With that said, if one of your resolutions for 2015 is to find time to play more games, you're going to have lots of options, should you be successful in your endeavor. One of them is PlayStation Now, Sony's online streaming game service that now has a subscription option. Sony kicked off the service by letting players rent titles at various prices depending on the length of rental. But beginning January 13th, Sony will launch a subscription... Read more...
Microsoft, it seems, just can't catch a break. Days after a major hack took its servers offline on Christmas and after being lambasted in multiple stories for shipping games like Halo: The Master Chief Collection in nigh-unplayable condition, the company's Xbox One SDK has been leaked to the public by a group calling itself H4LT.  H4LT, which apparently objects to being called a hacker group, offered this explanation when asked why it was distributing the SDK. The group claims that:  We leaked it to the community because if something is shared then.. progress is achieved faster than alone.... Read more...
