Who knew keyboards could be so exciting? Hot on the heels of KFC’s Tray Typer comes a decidedly cooler keyboard from Lenovo. The company used the spotlight at Tech World today to announce the Smart Cast smartphone, which has a projector that can create a virtual keyboard on just about any surface. Tell me that isn’t way more exciting than a keyboard food tray.  Lenovo released a YouTube video demonstrating the Smart Cast phone, but it hasn’t provided many details. The laser projector can output an image on the wall by projecting from the end of the phone when the device is lying flat.... Read more...
These are the days of form factors. The PC market is changing rapidly as tablets supplant some laptops, new players such as the Chromebook disrupt the old WIntel model, and innovations in processors and graphics allow for ever-smaller PCs such as Intel’s NUC. Here’s a new one for you: a tiny NUC-style PC that doubles as a video projector. It's an interesting combination and that’s we have for you today with the Gigabyte Brix Projector. The little PC ships as a barebones unit without storage or memory, but it actually has some solid specs under its diminutive hood and capabilities... Read more...

Well, here's an idea I hadn't considered before. Because most tablets don't offer the ability to plug in an external display, sharing what's on your screen with others usually involves passing the tablet around. Obviously, this isn't too ideal for something like an office meeting, where slides are being shown. But what if all of your documents are on the tablet? Must you first copy them elsewhere? Not with Promate's lumiTab you don't. As the title of this post gives away, lumiTab's biggest selling feature is its built-in projector, capable of outputting an image up to 100" - though at a resolution... Read more...
Mitsubishi may have wound down its production of laser-based rear-projection television, but lasers are clearly too stylish to leave the display industry completely. LG has just let slip a new Hecto laser TV projector, which is set to make its official debut in just days at CES 2013. Reportedly, the rectangular black box will be able to produce what appears to be a 100" screen from just 22" away, giving new meaning to the term "short-throw." It's a 1080p projector that's aiming to warm the hearts of mainstream homeowners who haven't given projectors much thought in recent years. It's equipped with... Read more...

Roku's Streaming Stick is about to get even more powerful. The USB thumb drive, which plugs into an MHL port and gives your television all sorts of new abilities, will soon be able to plug into something else: a 3M projector. It's the first product announced to truly work in concert with the Streaming Stick, dubbed the "3M Streaming Projector." The 3M Streaming Projector uses the Roku Streaming Stick to provide access to the more than 600 channels on the Roku platform. It'll beam out a WVGA image up to 120 inches, and it has a battery capable of running the projector for nearly three hours. So... Read more...
ViewSonic wants the HD projector to be something that isn’t just for enthusiasts--in the press release below, the company pitches it as something for “professionals to pitch a business opportunity, for teachers to present multimedia, or for entertainment in the living room”--and it apparently believes it’s on to something with the Pro8300 projector, which boasts 1080p full HD resolution, 3000 lumens, and a 1.5x optical zoom lens. The Pro8300 also features BrilliantColor technology for better color and clarity, a Pixelworks PW980 image processor, dual 10W speakers, and two... Read more...
Acer’s new ultraportable pico projector is indeed a pocket-sized device at just 4.72 x 3.23 x 1 inches (WxDxH), and it weighs less than half a pound. Designed as a companion for a notebook, The little guy can run off of a USB port (with support for USB 3.0) for convenience or from AC power when a brighter display is required. Any Acer notebook power adapter can also power the C120, which is a nice touch. The projector’s native display is 16:9 WVGA (854x480), with a maximum resolution of 16:10 QXGA (1280x800). The contrast ratio is 1000:1, color saturation is 60 to 120 percent NTSC,... Read more...
One of the biggest issues with home theater projectors is dealing with ambient light, which makes a lot of projectors less than ideal for upstairs living rooms and better suited for basement home theaters without windows. Acer’s H6500 home theater projector is designed to produce good color fidelity even in brighter environments, thus making the projector more useful in more places in the home. Features include full 1080p HD, 300-inch image projection, 2,100 ANSI lumens (which can be reduced to 1,680 to save power), and 10,000:1 contrast ratio. The H6500 weighs just 5.6 pounds and has multiple-PC... Read more...

File this one in the "weird, but I'll take it!" category. QP Optoelectronics has just announced that it will be showcasing its novel LightPad product at CES 2012, but it's the functionality that's so impressive. It uses a patent-pending tech and user interface to connect your smartphone to an 11" screen, which expands up to 60" when projected. It also includes a full-size keyboard. Connected with a smartphone, The LightPad provides virtually all functions of a notebook computer for an individual. This is mainly thanks to a rebirth of rear projection using a pico-projector. The high gain and high... Read more...
Runco. Heard of 'em? If so, you're probably well aware that it's a company that rarely comes out with anything in the "affordable" price range. The company has historically focused on the high-end, and for the most part, have found their products in the homes of those willing to drop thousands of dollars on an HD projector. If you're looking to build a home cinema, Runco's probably only on your list if you've got a huge budget, but that could be changing. As price pressures hit even the high-end, Runco is announcing a new addition to their LightStyle DLP projector series, the LS-1. It's a single-chip... Read more...
