Plants vs. Zombies is a cute, 2D tower defense game. Scratch that, it was a cute, 2D tower defense game; now, with Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, the game has evolved into a 3D shooter, and from the trailer video and screenshots, it looks like a lot of fun to play. PopCap developed the game on the Frostbite 3 engine and created completely enchanting animations, with detailed and interesting environments, delightfully satisfying audio effects, and overall smooth and pretty gameplay. Electronic Arts is slashing more jobs yet again, and to make matters worse (or at least more annoying), the company isn’t releasing many details about the who, what, where, and when of those layoffs. Instead of coming right out and saying publicly what’s happening, EA posted this incredibly vague “organizational update” on its blog: In recent weeks, EA has aligned all elements of its organizational structure behind priorities in new technologies and mobile. The mood around the Seattle offices of PopCap Games was probably high after the company announced the upcoming sequel to “Plants vs. Zombies” (coming spring 2013), but within a day, about 50 of those employees were out of a job. In a blog post, PopCap co-founder John Vechey wrote that most of the cuts in North America would be from the Seattle location, and what’s more, the entire Dublin, Ireland team--which numbers around 500 people, according to Bloomberg--may be on the chopping block, as well. PopCap Games, makers of the highly popular (and super fun) Plants vs Zombies defense game, just signed an agreement with Amazon to offer its first Android games to the U.S. market, exclusively on the Amazon Appstore for Android during two different two-week periods. Pay attention and you can score both Chuzzle and PvZ for free. Part of the deal includes serving up Chuzzle starting tomorrow and extending to May 30. Later this month, Plants vs Zombie will appear.
