Now that the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas is in full swing, you can expect a bevy of product announcements, everything from new desktops and crazy expensive laptops on down to routers and gaming peripherals. As it pertains to the latter, Patriot used the convention as a launchpad for several new gear, including a pair of mice, the Patriot Viper V570 RGB and V530 LED. The one with the higher model number is also the fancier of the too with an Avago 9800 laser sensor capable of up to 12,000 DPI. It has a unique auto-speed feature (available through the accompanying software) that... Read more...
To coincide with the release of Intel's current flagship Sandy Bridge-E processor and companion X79 chipset, a number of Intel’s memory partners released new quad-channel memory kits optimized for the platform. Previous Intel platforms were designed to offer optimal performance with two or three-channel memory configurations; Sandy Bridge-E and the X79 Express, however, perform best with a quad-channel setup. As such, we thought it would be a good idea to round-up a varied group of quad-channel memory kit options to see how each performed with a Sandy Bridge-E CPU and the X79 Express chipset,... Around the same time, Intel had also defined a new Extreme Memory Profile (XMP 1.3) specification, for easy optimization and overclocking. As such, we thought it... Read more...
Are you still wielding a USB 2.0-based NAND flash memory drive? If so, maybe it's time to think about stepping up to a SuperSpeed USB 3.0-based thumb drive, especially now that USB 3.0 ports are fast becoming ubiquitous with just about every new motherboard and system being released these days. One of your options is Patriot Memory's new Supersonic Boost XT USB 3.0 drive, a rugged little stick that's fast and should be able to withstand a bit of clumsiness, like dropping it down a flight of stairs. The Supersonic Boost XT measures just over 6 centimeters long and 2 centimeters wide and comes housed... Read more...
We have evaluated a handful of Patriot’s SSDs recently, all of which proved to be solid (no pun intended) offerings in their respective categories. The high-end Patriot Wildfire SSD hung right alongside the best of the SandForce-based drives with synchronous NAND we’ve tested and the lower-priced Pyro was also competitive with its asynchronous NAND-equipped counterparts. There was a fairly large price disparity between the Wildfire and Pyro, however, one which Patriot has filled with the newer Pyro SE. The SE is similar to the original Pyro, but eschews the first drive’s Micron... Read more...

Now that the Intel X79 chipset and new Intel Sandy Bridge-E CPUs (socket 2011) are officially a matter of record, seemingly every manufacturer is nearly simultaneously launching products to go along with them. Memory makers are no exception, as the new X79-based motherboards support a ridiculous amount of quad-channel DDR3 system memory. Because there are so many, we decided to wrap these memory announcements up in one tidy package for your reading enjoyment. Let’s go in alphabetical order, shall we? Corsair announced new kits in its Dominator and Vengeance families. There are five new Dominator... Read more...
With a name like Patriot Memory, you'd think the company would be all about equality and, well, you'd be right. In addition to a full line-up of Windows friendly storage devices you're already familiar with, Patriot just announced a couple of product lines aimed at Mac users, including its new Mac Series XT solid state drives and Mac Series notebook memory lines. "Patriot Memory’s Mac Series XT SSDs will provide users with a great alternative to traditional mechanical hard drives," says William Lai, Patriot Memory’s Product Manager. "Offering an easy solid state and memory upgrade,... Read more...
Patriot Memory added to its Pyro line of SSDs today with a trio of drives under the Pyro SE name. Available in capacities of 60GB, 120GB, and 240GB, the SandForce SF-2281-based SATA III SSDs feature synchronous NAND as well as TRIM, DuraClass, DuraWrite technologies. The drives have read/write speeds of up to 550MB/s / 520MB/s, 85,000 IOPS, and come in the familiar 2.5-inch form factor. The Pyro SE drives add a third branch to Patriot’s line of SATA III SSDs, joining the Pyro and Wildfire SSD families. New Second Gen Patriot Memory Pyro SE SSD brings increased performance to the performance... Read more...

Just a few short weeks after the release of its high-end WildFire-branded solid state drives, Patriot is at the ready with a new family of drives, dubbed Pyro. Like the WildFire, the similarly fire lovin’ Pyro is built around SandForce’s sought after SF-2200 series solid state storage processor. But with this newer series of drives, Patriot has paired the controller to less expensive asynchronous NAND flash memory. This pairing results in a much more affordable solid state drive that offers very similar performance to higher-end models with synchronous NAND flash memory in the vast... Read more...
