SIM cards are pretty small. The Micro-SIM within the iPhone 4 and iPad is even smaller. But is there a need to go even smaller? One could argue that you could never actually have an electronic component that's small enough; the world of tech is constantly evolving, and having smaller SIM cards would allow for smaller phones in the future. A Reuters report suggests that Apple has already "proposed" a standard SIM card size that's smaller than the ones already in use, and that's according to an Orange executive. France Telecom-owned Orange is planning to make high definition telephone calls available to British customers sometime this year. The HD voice service will require customers to buy new handsets. In return for upgrading to HD voice service, customers will enjoy clearer mobile phone calls that are said to make you feel as if you're in the same room with the person on the other end of the call. Contracts with the carriers and Apple were signed in the last few days.  Of particular interest, however, is that the contract requires the carriers to give Apple 10% of iPhone revenues derived from phone and data calls.  This is something the carriers have strongly resisted in the past, and shows just how much they wanted the latest must-have Apple gadget.
