Having Toshiba swoop in and acquire all of OCZ Technology's storage assets might have been the best thing that could have happened to the company. Without skipping a beat, OCZ Storage Solutions -- a newly formed entity owned by Toshiba and run by many of the same employees as before -- has been announcing new storage products, including today's introduction of the enterprise-class Z-Drive 4500 PCI Express SSD Series. The new Z-Drive 4500 Series picks up where the previous generation Z-Drive R4 Series left off. It uses faster 19-nanometer multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash memory chips, is integrated... As you might already know, OCZ Technology fell on tough times, filed for bankruptcy, and sold off virtually all of its assets to Toshiba. Following the acquisition, Toshiba launched OCZ Storage Solutions as a wholly owned subsidiary, a move that allows the hard workers at OCZ to continue pumping out solid state drives (SSDs) and other storage products without the worry of securing NAND flash memory chips in what's become a volatile market. What does all this mean in terms of warranty service? That was the big question leading up to a revised warranty page on OCZ's website. Short and to the point,... Read more...

Right on schedule, OCZ Technology is receiving an injection straight to the heart via Toshiba. After falling into bankruptcy last year and nearly instantly being rescued by Toshiba, the latter has announced today that it has "finalized the purchase of substantially all assets of OCZ Technology Group, making it a wholly owned subsidiary and Toshiba Group Company." Effective immediately, the Group company will operate independently as OCZ Storage Solutions, which means that we'll yet again see OCZ storage products making the rounds and breaking benchmark records. Here's perhaps the greatest news... Read more...
Down but not out, it's business as usual for OCZ Technology, which today introduced its next-generation Intrepid 3000 Series of enterprise-class SATA III solid state drives. OCZ claims its new drives offer the best sustained performance and consistent I/O responses of any SSDs aimed at enterprise applications. The Intrepid 3000 line comes in storage capacities up to 800GB and leverage OCZ's Everest 2 platform, which consists of a combination of the Marvell 88SS9187 controller with OCZ's proprietary firmware, or secret sauce, if you will. The Intrepid 3000 Series is optimized to deliver consistent... Read more...
We suspected that a deal was imminent, and now the details are being made public. OCZ, a company that engrossed gamers and power users for years with wicked-fast storage options, recently went bankrupt. Now, however, new life is being breathed into what's left by way of Toshiba. OCZ announced today that an agreement has been inked with Toshiba " to acquire substantially all of OCZ's assets in a chapter 11 bankruptcy proceeding for $35M." What this essentially means is that Toshiba is acquiring the solid state drive business from OCZ for a huge discount, which actually may work out well for both... Read more...
Editor's Update - 11/27 - 7:45PM We just had a call with some key team members at OCZ. Our contacts inform us that OCZ plans to continue operations in a "business as usual" mode. In fact representatives from OCZ noted specifically that the company will continue to manufacture product for existing customers, support warranties for existing customers, support customer service requirements and otherwise continue to function normally.  The team at OCZ was actually fairly positive with respect to today's news and while the word "bankruptcy" typically conjures up a notion of the end times, it actually...
