Is Powerline networking making a comeback? Possibly! After years of remaining relatively off the radar, Powerline tech has been popping up way more often of late. This week, Cisco announced a suite of Linksys HomePlug AV Powerline solutions that allow consumers to use their home network by using their existing home electrical wiring. The HomePlug AV Powerline standard provides speeds of up to 200 Mbps to bring streaming video, gaming, and other data-intensive applications to computers, tablets, consoles, televisions and other Ethernet-enabled devices. For those who are having trouble covering complex... Read more...
In a lavish suite at the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas, Asus set up a number of existing and upcoming products for eager members of the technology press to ogle and get some hands-on time. In the suite, we had a chance to checkout a handful of upcoming X79 motherboards, nettops, netbooks, notebooks, and even a few tablets and a smartphone. Bigfoot Networks has quietly gone from a niche startup that only targeted hardcore gamers, to a company that seems to be cracking into new parterships all the time. They've already managed to get their products into mainboards and GPUs, and now they're taking them to the most sophisticated spot yet: Alienware notebooks. Bigfoot's "Killer" line of networking gear is famous for one thing in particular: prioritizing bandwidth usage in order to reduce jitter and make online gameplay smoother compared to standard, non-optimized NICs. They've managed to do a swell job with it, and reviews are overwhelmingly... Read more...
Google+ (or Google Plus, if you're saying it aloud) has taken the social networking world by storm. It's certainly not the next Facebook (it's actually quite different), but there's no doubt that people are anxious to join in and see what the hubbub is all about. One that that social networking has really revolutionized is the way we advertise and spread the word about our businesses. While Facebook may largely be viewed as a consumer offering, tons of small and large businesses use it to interact directly with customers, advertise specials, and generally spread the word about what they're doing.... WiFi and fast food seem to go together like a greasy entree washed down with a Coke. Taco Bell is the latest to promise its patrons free WiFi in all of its U.S. restaurants -- that's 5,600 locations. And, if that weren't reason enough to linger in those lovely plastic chairs over a plate of Chalupas, Taco Bell is also throwing in a free side of TV, too. Granted, Taco Bell is a little late to the scene with free WiFi. McDonald's, Starbucks and most Burger King locations have had free WiFi for years. As for TV, the same system that Taco Bell will be installing is already in place at McDonalds, Wendy's,... Read more...

There may not seem like an immediate connection is there, but we suspect that last week's Android @ Home announcement could help to restart, or kickstart, home automation and powerline networking. Powerline utilities have been kicking around for years now, but they never have truly taken off in any serious fashion. Outside of a few hardcore home tinkerers, powerline gear has yet to grab the attention of the mainstream, but TRENDnet may be looking to change that with their newest gear. The company has just launched the first 500Mbps Powerline Adapter with a bonus outlet, making it even more simple... Read more...
