Foxconn has been making the news more often than not regarding labor practices, but the company also makes a range of PCs with its own brand on it. Here's the Foxconn NanoPC, a nettop that'll ship in two different versions. The AT-5250 and AT-5600 are based on the Intel Atom and AMD Brazos platforms, respectively, and neither consumes over 24 watts under load. Furthermore, they're "silent" due to the passive cooling setup. These are obviously aimed at carputer, industrial and even HTPC use, where power load is crucial and the noise factor is a big deal, too. They'll support 1.8" and 2.5" storage... Read more...

A new era of home entertainment is upon us. If you think about how you watch TV today versus 10 or even five years ago, it's probably a completely different experience. Nearly everything is served up in high definition, digital video recorders (DVRs) are now the norm and not the exception, and streaming services are making a big push to be the primary way in which you view content traditionally served up by cable and satellite TV. Unless you live way out in the boonies, you're probably rocking a broadband Internet connection, which is your gateway to any number of streaming services like Netflix,... Read more...
It's amazing what you can discover by digging around the Web. Head over to the FCC's website, for example, and you might stumble upon an intriguing Fusion-powered nettop from Sapphire. Rather than release another pint-sized system with an Intel Atom processor and Nvidia Ion graphics running the show, Sapphire's upcoming Edge-HD3 Mini PC will roll with an AMD E-450 dual-core processor and integrated Radeon HD 6320 graphics. Credit goes to Liliputing for discovering the FCC page, which seems to have to have disappeared, but not before a few specs and several pictures could be pulled from the site.... Read more...

It's that time again. The time of year where students and parents frantically hit e-tailers with overnight shipping deals in order to get that all-important back-to-school technology into a dorm room or backpack before classes begins. It's back-to-school season, and whether you've started classes recently or are awaiting (dreading?) that first 8AM lecture, there may be a few bits of techno-shopping that need to be taken care of before you can be on your way to that straight-A report card... VIA introduced its dual-core Nano just four months ago, but the company is already demonstrating that processor's big brother. The newly minted VIA QuadCore is--you guessed it--a quad-core processor that connects two dual-core Nano cores in an MCM (multi-chip module). The new chip won't actually ship for some months, but it may become a higher-performance alternative to both Atom and Brazos when it does... VIA Launches New Low Power QuadCore Nano CPU... The dual-module chips are the quad-core, the single dies are the Nano X2. VIA's share of the x86 market is small in comparison to Intel and AMD, but Centaur, the company's CPU design... Read more...
