Since Firaxis took the veil off of Civilization: Beyond Earth in April, we've had a relative dearth of information to run on, and especially a lack of media to soak in (three official screenshots!). Well, both problems have now been remedied, and as an added bonus, the company has finally given us a release date: October 24, 2014. While Firaxis hasn't provided us any new screenshots, it's done one better: It's posted a video that gives us a better peak at what's coming, and what to expect. If you've played previous Civilization titles, and especially Civilization V, it looks like you're going to... Read more...
Despite the fact that Grand Theft Auto V was released over nine months ago, it continues to find its way into headlines sometimes for good reasons, other times for less-than-ideal reasons. But regardless of those reasons, publicity is publicity, and I'm sure Rockstar welcomes it. The game, which was recently announced to come to additional platforms this fall, once again finds itself in headlines today, and from an unsuspecting source: Lindsay Lohan. As it happens, a character in GTA V resembles Lohan slightly, and apparently shares a similar voice and clothes line. Generally, I write this kind... Read more...
You can get a jump start on the 4th of July festivities by downloading a Grand Theft Auto V title update (version 1.15) containing special content for Independence Day. This is very much a themed update with two new vehicles sporting permanent American Flag livery -- the Sovereign motorcycle and the super-sized Liberator monster truck. All that's missing is a bumper sticker declaring, "These colors don't run!" Naturally no GTA V update would be complete without new weapons, and this one brings them in a form of a high-powered Musket and a Firework Rocket Launcher. It also introduces four types... Back in March we posted an article about GTA V and said that one of these days we’d post a piece stating that the title is finally available for the PC. Well, today is that day. Rockstar posted the news that Grand Theft Auto V is indeed coming to the PC, this fall. It’s also going to be available on Microsoft’s and Sony’s next-gen Xbox One and PS4 consoles. “Grand Theft Auto V will take full advantage of the power of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC with across-the-board graphical and technical improvements to deliver a stunning new level of detail,” reads... One of these days, we're going to post an article declaring that Grand Theft Auto V is finally available for PC. Unfortunately today is not that day. However, Rockstar Games isn't just sitting around idle -- we've seen a handful of game patches released in the last few months, and there's yet another available that adds some new items and fixes a bunch of bugs. GTAV title update 1.11 adds new clothing to the clothes store, new tattoo options, four new hairstyles (two male and two female), some new masks, green and purple tire smoke colors, new vehicles (Grotti Turismo R, Dinka Jester, Albany Alpha,... It's said the truth is sometimes stranger than fiction, and towards that end, the daughter of a mafia kingpin is accusing Rockstar Games of having used her story without her permission in Grand Theft Auto V. Her name is Karen Gravano, daughter of Salvatore Gravano (otherwise known as Sammy the Bull) and former star of the reality show Mob Wives. Gravano filed a lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court on Monday claiming that Rockstar Games ripped off her image and real-life story to create the in-game character Antonia Bottino and the incidents surrounding her. "Notwithstanding the fact that plaintiff... Read more...
Throw your controller across the room in a fit of rage, if you must. Hell, punch a pillow, kick a nearby door, or question the virtual referee's eyesight. At no point, however, are you to curse within earshot of the Kinect or PlayStation Camera while playing NBA 2K14, because if you do, there's a good chance you'll be hit with a technical foul for using foul language. I can attest that this same feature exists in NBA 2K13 (hey, things get heated out there, what can I say?). Still, some gamers are taking exception to not being able to swear in their own living room without being penalized for it,... Read more...
When it comes to waiting for ports, mobile gamers sometimes have it worse than the PC crowd. How so? Consider that while PC gamers are chomping at the bit (or "champing," if you want to avoid a citation from the grammar police) to play Grand Theft Auto V on their platform of choice, mobile gamers are still waiting for GTA: San Andreas. Well, good news mobile users, your wait has almost come to an end. Rockstar Games today announced that San Andreas is headed to mobile devices next month. There aren't any screenshots to gawk at just yet, though Rockstar did say the mobile version will look better... Read more...
Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. is forging ahead without further guidance or input from billionaire investor Carl Icahn, who agreed to sell back his 12.02 million shares in the company at yesterday's closing price of $16.93 per share. That works out to around $203.5 million, which Take-Two will fund from its cash reserve and cash equivalents on hand, the company announced. "This share repurchase reflects our confidence in the company’s outlook for record results in fiscal 2014 and continued non-GAAP profitability every year for the foreseeable future," said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and... Forget about all the patches and updates Rockstar Games has rolled out to date in order to get Grand Theft Auto Online up to snuff. The first real update -- one that's not intended to fix broken content, but introduce new gameplay -- is scheduled to arrive next week on Tuesday, November 19th, the developer announced. It's called Beach Bum and it will be automatically added to GTA Online through its next title update (version 1.06). Beach Bum will introduce a pair of new weapons to play with, including the compact (yet deadly) SNS Pistol and, for you street brawlers, a Broken Bottle for melee combat.... Read more...
Rockstar Games has issued another patch for Grand Theft Auto Online, the online multiplayer portion of its popular Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) title for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles (be sure to read our review). The latest update fixes over a dozen issues with the game, including one for where the starting point for the tutorial race was not appearing. It also fixes a remaining issue where some people's vehicles or vehicle modifications were disappearing. Rockstar Games blamed the bug on cloud save failures, though after applying the latest patch, it should no longer be an issue, the developer... Read more...
The initial roll out of Grand Theft Auto V's online multiplayer mode wasn't as rocky as, say, SimCity's from earlier this year, though several "technical issues" did crop up that prevented players from enjoying the experience on the first day, and even a little while longer. Even though Rockstar Games warned that there would be growing pains, the developer is sympathetic to what gamers had to endure and has decided to reward them handsomely for their patience. How does half a million dollars of in-game currency strike your fancy? That's a lot of loot, and it's exactly what every online player who... Read more...
Grand Theft Auto V is a huge hit, and while it’s lighting up many a console, to date there is no version for the PC, despite a petition. This isn’t totally unexpected, as releasing the game on consoles and then rolling out a PC version months later is what Rockstar Games has done with previous GTA editions, but it’s galling for PC gamers that the company hasn’t said anything affirmative about whether the game will be available on the PC at all. However, industry scuttlebutt is that a PC version of GTA V is coming in early 2014. Eurogamer says it has multiple sources that... Read more...
Rockstar Games on Friday announced that the latest title update for the online component of Grand Theft Auto V is live for PlayStation 3, while the developer is working to have another patch available for Xbox 360 gamers "as soon as possible today." The second patch is intended to address a "variety of technical difficulties" associated with online play. Gamers eagerly anticipated the launch of GTA Online, though the developer warned last week that the initial rollout might suffer from some "teething problems," and that's turned out to be true. For PS3 gamers, a PlayStation Network issue was limiting... Read more...
