Everyone loves a discount, especially when that discount ranges in the millions of dollars. Verizon is reportedly trying to reduce the $4.83 billion USD price tag for Yahoo, Inc. by $250 million. The renegotiation is in light of Yahoo’s disclosures of past security breaches. Yahoo revealed three security breaches this past year. In May, the corporation disclosed that Russian hackers stole and traded on the black market information from more than 40 million Yahoo accounts. Verizon Wireless is reportedly looking to expand its wireless service north of the border into Canada. Should VZW go through with it, Canadian mobile phone subscribers would then have access to four major wireless carriers to choose from, as Big Red would be competing against Telus Corp, BCE Inc's Bell Unit, and Rogers Communications. According to The Globe and Mail, Canada's government is very interested in having a fourth major wireless player. Verizon was anything but bashful in revealing its first quarter financial numbers for 2013. Company chairman and CEO Lowell McAdam said, "Verizon is off to an excellent start in 2013," and that's hard to dispute when looking at a 15.3 percent year-over-year increase in earnings per share and a 4.2 percent jump in total operating revenues. Net income for the quarter reached $1.95 billion, up 15.8 percent compared to the same quarter a year ago.
