EVGA’s latest EATX enthusiast board is the Z77 FTW, which is built to let users push its overclocking limits. The board supports Intel 3rd-generation processors and has five PCI-E 3.0 x16 slots and one PCI-E 3.0 x1 slot that taken together can handle up to four-way SLI support with graphics cards at x8-x16-x8-x8. There’s a pair of new Intel 7-Series motherboards out from ZOTAC, and they’re both in the mini-ITX form factor. The ZOTAC Z77-ITX WiFi and H77-ITX WiFi support LGA1155 3rd-generation and 2nd-generation Intel chips, and although both are equipped with a PCI-E x16 (3.0) slot, they’re also Intel HD 2500/4000-ready. Don't beat yourself up if you've forgotten all about Chaintech, a once popular player in the motherboard and graphics business. It’s nearly impossible to keep up with the latest and greatest tech without updating something every few months, but MSI is throwing us a bone by making sure its Z68 and H61 series motherboards will support Intel’s next-generation 22nm chips via a simple BIOS update. Users just need to use MSI’s LiveUpdate tool to get the update. The complete list of compatible motherboards is listed below, although it appears for the time being that just three have the BIOS update available today, and all three are H61 boards. Intel recently unveiled a special warranty plan that allows users a one-time replacement for a processor they inadvertently cook while overclocking, but it cost a (relatively) small fee--between $20-35, depending on your particular CPU. Gigabyte and CyberpowerPC have partnered to offer Intel’s plan, called the Intel Performance Tuning Protection Plan, in some CybewrpowerPC systems for free. On the one hand, it’s tempting to say, “We get it already, MSI, your military-class components help facilitate fantastic overclocking”, but on the other hand, it’s really fun to see just how far pro overclockers can push the envelope with MSI motherboards and Intel Sandy Bridge-E chips. According to a release from MSI, The answer as of right now is 5.83GHz, a feat accomplished by overclocker Turn&Burn using an MSI X79A-GD65 (8D) and an Intel Core i7-3930K processor.
