Under the veil of the Internet, people tend to post things they wouldn't say in person. We've all encountered the so-called Internet tough guy or troll, though some comments and posts step so far out of bounds that it constitutes harassment and/or cyber bullying. It's a problem that not only exists, but also is getting worse, which is why Twitter decided to enhance its in-product harassment-reporting tool. In an effort to streamline the process of reporting abuse, Twitter made the process much more mobile friendly and cut back on the amount of initial information that's required. It now asks if... That's not the sky you see falling on Wall Street, just Twitter's stock price. Investors hit the panic button after Twitter reported its fourth quarter and fiscal year 2013 financial results. Twitter's revenue in the fourth quarter was $243 million, up 116 percent year-over-year, though it's the user growth that spooked investors into selling off their stock. The microblogging service averaged 241 million users in the fourth quarter of 2013, an increase of just 3.8 percent sequentially. By the end of the week, there's a good chance Twitter will be a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). In addition to a bevy of engineers, a handful of job openings at Twitter seem to suggest it's prepping itself for an IPO. Among the job listings are positions for "Stock... Read more...
Just as it's been for Facebook, mobile's proving a game changer for Twitter, the microblogging service that's home to over 200 million active users. In light of this, research firm eMarketer bumped its forecast for Twitter's ad revenue to $582.8 in 2013 before nearing $1 billion next year. That's up from $288.3 million in 2012 and $139.5 million 2011. More than half of Twitter's ad dollars -- about 53 percent -- will come from mobile advertising this year, eMarketer says. What's so remarkable about that figure is that Twitter generated virtually nothing from mobile ad revenue in 2011. Image Source:... Read more...
