Your average coach airline seat won't have a power outlet, but you can bet the pilots have access to a couple of them. At least, we sure hope they do over at Alaska Airlines, because the company just green-lit a new program that will allow their aircraft to use iPad flight manuals instead of bulky, wasteful paper ones. They're claiming to be the first domestic airline in America to make the switch, and as with paperless billing, we suspect it will only snowball from here. Not that any of you bother to RTFM (Google it) anyway, but for what it's worth, Ubisoft is doing away with paper-based manuals and replacing them with in-game digital copies instead. The new initiative applies to games for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, starting with Shaun White Skateboarding this holiday 2010, Ubisoft said. It was only a matter of time, right? With digital becoming the new black, we knew that those hugely thick, underutilized user guides that shipped with automobiles would one day fade from existence, and it looks as if the fading has begun. Chrysler has just announced that it will become the first automaker to ditch the paperback and go digital with the guides that accompany its fleet of vehicles.The paperless approach is designed to save over 930 tons of paper, or around 20,000 trees annually, and we can imagine that it'll also save the company some serious dough.
