Boutique system builder Maingear is banking on there being an audience outside of productivity junkies who can appreciate a high-powered 14-inch laptop. Hence the launch of Maingear's Pulse 14 with not only Haswell inside, but gaming grade discrete graphics courtesy of NVIDIA. Make no mistake, this 14-inch notebook is for users who'd rather play games than hammer out TPS reports. Pricing for the Pulse 14 starts at $1,299, which gets you a "Good" configuration consisting of an Intel Core i7 4702MQ processor, GeForce GTX 760M graphics, 8GB of Corsair DDR3-1600 memory, 500GB Seagate SSHD hybrid storage,... Feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the Haswell headlines dominating the tech scene? Lest anyone forget, AMD still has game, and it just so happens that boutique system builder Maingear is offering the Sunnyvale chip designer's new A-10 6800K APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) in both its Potenza and Vybe line of gaming PCs. Starting with the less expensive of the two, a Maingear Vybe machine configured with an AMD A-10 6800K CPU runs $649 and up. A baseline configuration consists of a Vybe 2012 chassis, MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 motherboard, 8GB of DDR3-2133, AMD Radeon HD 8570D (integrated into the APU)... Read more...
It’s Haswell time in a major way, and the latest custom PC builder to update its entire line with 4th-generation Intel Core (Haswell) processors is MAINGEAR. The company announced that its SHIFT, F131, Potenza, and Vybe desktops in addition to its Nomad 15 and Nomad 17 gaming notebooks will all sport the new Intel chips. MAINGEAR also pushed the latest SHIFT’s selling points by comparing it to previous generations of custom SHIFT rigs. Unsurprisingly, the 2013 version obliterates the 2009 and 2010 version, but MAINGEAR is trying to make a point, which is that for as substantial as the... Read more...
More often than not, boutique system build Maingear is on the ball with new product releases, and today's launch of NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 780 graphics card is no exception. No sooner had NVIDIA announced its new card, Maingear tugged on our ear to let us know it's offering the new part in its lineup of gaming systems, including the popular SHIFT and F131 desktops. Configure a system with a single card or go crazy with a 3-way SLI setup. Either way, Maingear will happily assemble your dream machine around NVIDIA's latest GPU. "Offering the very best performance and experience is important to us and... Read more...
On the list of places to acquire a MAINGEAR gaming rig, here’s a notable addition: all of Microsoft’s retail stores nationwide. Microsoft now offers the MAINGEAR Potenza Super Stock small form factor gaming PC in both its brick-and-mortar locations and through its online store, which is a development notable in part because of the dearth of desktop SKUs therein. Indeed, there are only three other desktops in the Microsoft store. For those close enough to a Microsoft store, you can now saunter over and pick yourself up a system packing impressive specifications. The Microsoft version... Read more...
There’s a lot to love about a mini-ITX gaming PC. Portability is a big draw, of course: carrying your computer through the parking lot to a LAN party is much easier if it happens to be an SFF system. Reclaiming desk space is another reason to go small. And some of us just take a lot of pleasure in knowing that our tiny, unassuming PC will drop a few jaws when it’s game time. With an Intel Core i7 3770 and an MSI GeForce GTX 660 at its heart, Maingear’s mini-ITX Potenza only looks mild-mannered. In fact, Maingear offers the system with up to a Core i7-3770K and a GTX Titan, but... Read more...

A couple of days ago, we showed you the new NVIDIA GeForce GTX Titan in all its glory—almost. While we were able to reveal the card itself, discuss its new features and specifications, and talk about some of the new systems it will be powering, we weren’t able to post any performance data. Fortunately, that all changes today. We’ve been able to test NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX Titan in a number of different configurations, including SLI and in a multi-monitor setup, and have the goods for you here today. And yes, we’ve got some Crysis 3 action on tap as well... NVIDIA's GeForce... Read more...

By now, you know that Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan graphics are here. (Check out our in-depth look here.) Maingear is one of the system builders to get in early on the technology, and it’s touting GTX Titan in three systems, ranging from the space-conscious Potenza to the muscle PC SHIFT. Maingear's Potenza is a space-saver. The Potenza is a mini-ITX gamer (see our review) that takes up a mere 7.4 x 9.25 inches on your desk, so it’s not surprising that the system includes only one GTX Titan-based card. Maingear installed the motherboard so that hot air from the cards exhausts at the top... Read more...
NVIDIA is launching a new, ultra high-end graphics card today, the long rumored GeForce GTX Titan. Although the card itself and a couple of its features are new to the consumer graphics card market, many details of the GPU powering the GTX Titan, namely the NVIDIA GK110, have been previously covered here. In fact, NVIDIA revealed the GK110 at GTC 2012 in May of last year and released its first Tesla-branded products based on the GPU a few months later. The GK110 is also a key component of the GeForce GTX Titan’s namesake, the Titan Supercomputer, which uses almost 19,000 of the GPUs in tandem... Read more...

Maingear is rounding out its laptop lineup with the new NOMAD 15, giving you a 15-inch alternative to the larger NOMAD 17 gamer. And, of course, you can pick the color for your hand-painted system. Graphics options range from the Nvidia GeForce GTX 670M to the 680M.
