It's said that the squeaky wheel is the one that gets the oil, and there's been a lot of squeaky wheels complaining about borked hinges on Dell's Alienware M11x notebook line. In one forum thread, there's over 150 users who reported problems with their M11x, most of which cried foul over cracked and noisy hinges. The message was heard loud and clear by Dell, who offered up this apology and promised remedy: "We apologize for this process taking so long," a Dell liaison wrote in support forum post. "We have an ETA around March for when the M11x-R1/R2 Hinge fix program will be started. The start date... Read more...
We found Alienware's M11x to be one-in-a-million when we reviewed it earlier in the year, but there's always room for improvement. Even Alienware recognizes that, and they've done quite a bit of improving with the latest edition of the planet's smallest hardcore gaming notebook. The new M11x still retains the tiny 11" form factor and typical Alienware design, but the components within are on another planet. Consumers now have the option to get a Core i5 or Core i7 processor within, and the best news is that battery life should be better thanks to using NVIDIA's Optimus graphics switching technologies.... During the Consumer Electronics Show which took place in early January of this year, we showcased a myriad of upcoming products in our coverage of the event. Of the literally thousands of things we saw at CES, however, we'd consider only a handful of them to be truly stand-out products. One of those geek-lust worthy products, at least in our opinion, was the slick Alienware M11x. We gave you somewhat more than a glimpse of the M11x in our close-up look at the machine at Dell's display at the show, but we have since gotten one in house and have been able to put it through its paces on our home turf.... There were a few stand-outs at this year's 2010 CES, like Intel's WiDi Wireless Display demo and of course NVIDIA's impressive Tegra 2 demo.  However, if we were to call in a close 3rd runner-up to those two, it would have to be the absolutely HOT looking new Dell Alienware M11x gaming notebook.  Dell was pre-announcing this machine that is soon to be released and for us at least, it was a proverbial show-stopper.  The M11x is built on an 11.6-inch LCD form-factor and from what we could tell, it's svelte, well-built, super stylish and rugged.  You can think of it as a mini version...
