Nokia is reportedly prepping a successor to its flagship Lumia 920 device. Codenamed "Catwalk," the new smartphone will feature a chassis constructed from aluminum rather than the polycarbonate body found on previous Lumia devices. As a result, the Catwalk will be much lighter and thinner than existing Lumia smartphones. Not a lot of specifics are known at this time. According to The Verge, the Catwalk will run Windows Phone 8 and sport similar internal hardware as the Lumia 920, which itself boasts a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snadragon S4 processor, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 4.5-inch... Don't kick yourself if you missed out on the Black Friday madness or slept through Cyber Monday without snagging a single deal to brag about. There are still juicy sales items to be had, one of which is Nokia's Lumia 920 smartphone for $70 at Amazon (with a qualifying data plan and 2-year service agreement with AT&T, of course). That's 30 percent less than what it costs on AT&T's website. So, what's the catch? You may have to wait awhile for your device to arrive. "Due to overwhelming demand, shipment estimates may be longer than one to two weeks. Orders for this device will ship when available,"... Read more...
For whatever reason, HTC and Nokia unveiled their respective Windows Phone 8 devices without disclosing any pricing information, making it unnecessarily difficult to speculate how well they'll sell amid a sea of Android and iOS smartphones. Thanks to electronics retailer Best Buy, now we know. Best Buy tossed up a couple of pre-order pages, one of which it has since pulled offline. The one that remains is for HTC's Windows Phone 8X (8GB) on AT&T's network. With a two-year contract, Best Buy will sell you the device for a Benjamin ($100). Off contract, the handset carries an MSRP of $600. Nokia... Read more...
Nokia is desperately trying to reestablish itself as a major contender in the mobile phone space, but it's no easy task going up against the likes of Apple and Samsung. There's also a lot riding for company CEO Stephen Elop, who could find himself looking for a new job if the Lumia 920 fails to excite customers the way he envisioned. Elop has bet the farm -- and possibly his job -- on Microsoft's Windows Phone platform. So far, that strategy hasn't really paid off, but if Windows Phone 8 turns out to be a success, Nokia's fortunes could turn around in a heartbeat. The problem with that scenario... Read more...
Nokia made a splash this week when it unveiled its lineup of colorful Windows Phone 8 devices, but neglected to mention how much the Lumia 920/820 will cost, when they'll be available, and which carriers will offer them. Well, we can't answer all those questions just yet, but we do know of at least one carrier planning to offer the Lumia 920 in November -- AT&T. AT&T is reportedly doing some internal testing on the Lumia 920 and is aiming to launch Nokia's flagship Windows phone on November 2nd, well in time for the holiday shopping season. The tests are necessary in order to the certify... Read more...
We're not sure exactly what investors were hoping Nokia would unveil yesterday, but apparently, the Lumia 920 and 820 weren't it. Following the much anticipated unveiling of two new Windows Phone 8 devices, Nokia shares took a bit of a mini-nosedive, sliding 16 percent to $2.38 at the end of the trading day on Thursday. That's the lowest it's been all year. According to reports, Nokia's new devices didn't pack sufficient punch, and it also didn't help that the Finnish smartphone maker withheld specific release dates, pricing, and carrier information. "People were looking for something that would... Read more...
