The path to Microsoft's Windows 7.8 platform just got a little bit cheaper and is paved with a price cut. That's because Nokia on Sunday announced that it cut the price of its Lumia 900 smartphone in half, which is now selling for just $50 at AT&T in the U.S., with a two-year service agreement, of course. "This announcement comes just in time for the debut of the elegant Pink Lumia 900 and the start of back-to-school shopping for student smartphones," Nokia said. It also comes as word got out that Windows 7.8 represents the last OS hurrah for the Lumia 900, which doesn't have the horsepower... Read more...
If you're thinking about purchasing Nokia's Lumia 900 smartphone directly from Nokia or through AT&T's website, or even at your local Best Buy, do yourself a favor and shop around. It's not that the Lumia 900 is expensive by any stretch -- just $99 with a 2-year service agreement -- but if you look around, you can find it selling for half price, or just $50. That's pretty remarkable for a top-tier device that's still relatively new. To snag the Lumia 900 for half price, you have to head over to Amazon. A 2-year service agreement also applies, but by going through Amazon, you're paying about... Read more...
After you add up the price of all the parts, Nokia's shiny new Lumia 900 smartphone carries a bill of materials (BOM) in the neighborhood of $209, according to a teardown analysis by IHS iSuppli. Factor in another $8 for manufacturing fees and the cost to build the Windows Phone device everyone is talking about comes out to $217, or 46 percent of the Lumia 900's $450 retail price sans contract. Of course, most people are going to purchase the phone on contract with a two-year service agreement, which knocks the price of the phone down to $100 via AT&T. Between now and April 21st, Nokia will... Read more...
The wait is almost over for Nokia to launch its Lumia 900 smartphone on AT&T, and if you're super anxious to own one, you can start placing your pre-orders now. AT&T has begun accepting pre-orders for the upcoming Windows Phone device, which runs $100 with a 2-year voice agreement with qualifying monthly data plan (it's $450 off contract). Hang with us, the deal gets even better. We placed a mock order on AT&T's website and were greeted to a surprise message saying, "Your order is scheduled to be shipped on April 5, 2012." Nokia's hotly anticipated Lumia 900 smartphone built around Microsoft's Windows Phone 7.5 platform isn't scheduled to launch for another month and a half, but if you want to reserve yours now, all you need is $25 and you're good to go, assuming you live nearby a Microsoft Store. If not, you'll also need a tank of gas to make the trek to one of just 16 locations, six of which are located in California and the rest scattered throughout the country. Multiple news outlets claimed to have confirmed with Microsoft that $25 down will put you in line to receive a Lumia 900 on day or release, which is rumored... Read more...
Nokia's Lumia 710 smartphone landed at T-Mobile last week and is available for purchase for a mere $50 with a two-year service agreement (and after a $50 mail-in-rebate). It's a middle-of-the-road Windows Phone device that's fairly decent for the money, but if you're holding out for Nokia's upcoming Lumia 900 smartphone, you don't have too much longer to go. A post on a Nokia Developer Website tips the release date as being sometime in March. "The Nokia Lumia 900 phone runs Microsoft Windows Phone 7.5. It is the biggest and fastest smartphone yet. And it will become available exclusively through... Read more...
