We're getting closer and closer to living in a world where 1TB memory cards are commonplace. Just a few years ago, having a 1GB flash card in your camera was a big deal. Change is in the air, and so is the smell of new flash memory. Lexar really is on a roll to start 2011, first issuing a new 32GB microSDHC card, and now revealing the Echo MX and ZX USB backup drives. The company's newest backup drives are unique in that they're "no touch," compared to the "one touch" options you'll usually find. Both of these Echo drives are highly portable, and both have 128-bit AES encryption for the ultimate in security. Lexar is improving upon its Professional line of CompactFlash (CF) and Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) memory cards by adding larger CF cards and faster SDHC cards. The capacity of the Professional 300x CF cards has been increased to 32GB; Lexar's Professional 233x CF cards are now available in 16GB and 32GB capacities. Lexar Media introduced its highest capacity, fastest Solid-State Drives (SSDs) to date. The new Crucial M225 SSDs use a SATA 2.0 (3Gb/second) interface) and feature MLC NAND flash memory in a 2.5-inch drive enclosure. These drives are quieter, run cooler, and are more durable than traditional hard drives. You’ll find the M225 SSDs in capacities of 64GB ($169.99), 128GB ($329.99), and 256GB ($599.99). Micron Technology announced the mass production of new NAND flash memory products using a 34-nanometer process technology. In coordination with the announcement, Lexar, a subsidiary of Micron, announced plans to take advantage of the new 34nm NAND products by offering a range of flash memory cards and USB flash drives that use the technology.Micron’s newly architected 32Gb multi-level cell (MLC) NAND chip is 17% smaller than the company’s first-generation 32Gb chip.
