With a name like Leica, it's surely the best, right? The company famous for being famous in photography has just presented a new model, the V-Lux 3. It's a shiny new compact digital camera with an extensive range of features, including a Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 4.5 - 108 mm f/2.8 - 5.2 ASPH. 24-fold super-telephoto zoom lens. It's got a 12.1MP CMOS sensor, and the company's angling this as an alternative to an entry-level DSLR. You'll also get 1080p movie mode, bursts of 12 frames per second at full resolution, or 60 frames per second at a resolution of 3.5 MP. There's also a 3" LCD display with... Read more...
Leica cameras look good on their own. Really good, in fact: a horde of camera companies have tried to sneak small design influences from Leica into their own gear, and while the company's kit is obviously about as expensive as it gets, those fortunate to own a Leica body generally adore it. So, it's no surprise to see ColorWare grabbing one of these for their own amusement, and then offering high-end consumers the chance to own a D-Lux 5 in pretty much any color combination you could dream up. The D-Lux 5 is actually one of Leica's least expensive cameras at $800, just marginally more expensive... Read more...
It's camera week in Germany with the Photokina trade show ongoing, and Leica is obviously a big player in the scheme of things. The company is best known for their professional models and their rangefinders, but the new D-Lux 5 is a new entrant into the compact market. It's modeled after Panasonic's LX5, but thanks to the Leica heritage, it will obviously be far more expensive. It's a small, sleek, compact little guy, totally black and super elite. It includes a 10MP sensor, 3" LCD and support for 720p movie recording. It supposedly has a super fast processing engine, and it ships with a LEICA... Read more...
To say that Leica is a trusted name in the camera industry is just too easy. That's a well-known fact, and we doubt it'll change anytime soon. The company is primarily known for shipping extremely expensive and rare rangefinders, which are smaller cameras with larger sensors that can approach DSLR quality in a body that's barely larger than the average point and shoot camera. Today, that very company is introducing one of their cheaper models: the V-LUX 20.It's modeled after Panasonic's ZS7, and in reality, not much has changed on the Leica version. The price tag, of course, is one of them. There's... Read more...
There are cameras, and then there are Leicas. Those who use them swear by them, and those that don't typically wish they could afford them. There's no doubt that each and every Leica is pricey, but each and every Leica looks like a million bucks and generally performs equally well.In the midst of news flowing from the likes of Apple, Dell and Motorola, this camera company decided to go ahead and reveal two new offerings this week in the M9 and X1. The M9 is a full-frame "rangefinder," with an incredible 18MP image sensor, support for M System lenses, and a newly developed glass sensor cover designed... Read more...
