A pair of classic game titles developed by Valve have now been ported over to NVIDIA's recently launched Tegra K1-powered SHIELD tablet. The classic games include Portal and Half-Life 2, though these aren't straight (or lazy) ports -- both feature a wide variety of high-end and exclusive visual effects built to showcase the 192-core Tegra K1 chip in NVIDIA's SHIELD. Last week, NVIDIA officially announced the SHIELD tablet (powered by the Tegra K1 SoC) and its companion SHIELD wireless controller. To quickly recap, the SHIELD tablet’s specifications include NVIDIA Tegra K1 SoC (clocked at up to 2.2GHz), paired to 2GB of RAM and an 8”, full-HD IPS display, with a native resolution of 1920x1200. NVIDIA just officially announced the SHIELD tablet (powered by their Tegra K1 SoC) and SHIELD wireless controller. As the SHIELD branding implies, the new SHIELD tablet and wireless controller builds upon the previously-released, Android-based SHIELD portable to bring a true gaming-oriented tablet to consumers. In some ways, the SHIELD tablet and wireless controller are somewhat of mashup of the SHIELD portable and the Tegra Note 7, but featuring newer, updated technology and better materials. Between AMD's surprise SSE5 announcement and the official launches of Barcelona and Penryn, it's becoming difficult to tell who is doing the launch crashing these days.  Right before Barcelona is due to launch, it looks like Intel is going to release a few power efficient CPUs riding the 1333MHz FSB. According to a story on The Inquirer, AMD's upcoming native quad-core processor, codenamed Barcelona, will outperform competitive offerings from Intel.  AMD's European technical director, Guiseppe Amato said, "Barcelona is an architecture that must be faster."  And that compatibility with existing platforms is assured with a simple BIOS update. BigFoot Networks, the makers of the Killer Network Interface Card, have launched a new, more affordable version of the product.  The first Killer NIC, aka the M1, sells for roughly $250.
