It's official, gold is no longer best. We can't in good conscious continue proclaiming such nonsense after seeing Samsung's limited edition Galaxy S6 Edge in Iron Man trim. From here on out, we must concede that gold and red is the new best color combination, a conclusion we're sure Tony Stark and Avengers fans around the world would all agree with. Speaking of which, Samsung and Marvel have been working closely together for some time now, so it's not shocking to see the South Korean handset maker deck out its popular Galaxy S6 Edge after Iron Man. And we have to admit, Samsung chose the right... Read more...
Robert Downey Jr. melted many hearts last week when he showed up as Tony Stark to deliver a customized, bionic arm to a seven-year-old fan. The video went viral and showed how the thoughtfulness of others can make a lasting impression on a child. Today, however, Robert Downey Jr. is stepping back into his role as HTC spokesman, and the results are definitely more mixed. Ever since stepping into the role in 2013, Robert Downey Jr.’s commercials have been met with puzzled reactions and this year sees the arrival of nine new commercial “shorts.” All of the commercials are color-coded (i.e. white,... Here’s your feel-good story for Thursday afternoon. Albert Manero, who has a degree in Aerospace engineering from the University of Central Florida and is currently pursuing a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, has made it a point to help serve others. "My parents always encouraged me to use my education to help others and to dream big dreams,” says Manero. “Now I want to inspire others to help engineer hope for the world." Manero is doing just that with Limbitless Solutions, a volunteer foundation that uses 3D printer technology to build bionic arms for children that have either lost a limb,... Read more...
When it comes to superhero face-offs, Iron Man vs. the Hulk is shaping up as the one to beat. (Not that Iron Man’s dust-up with Thor in “The Avengers” wasn’t mightily entertaining.) Marvel has been stoking the fire in advance of the upcoming “Avengers: Age of Ultron” sequel, even going so far as to release a teaser trailer for the Iron Man/Hulk trailer (think on that a second), which released today. Trailer screengrab. Image credit: Marvel While none of the movies about individual Avengers could be described as cheery, the first title to see the Avengers unite was particularly dark and ended with... Read more...
A child in Texas received an Iron Man-like prosthetic hand which was created by a 3D printer. Non-profit organization E-Nable, which advocates the use of 3D-printing for prosthetic limbs, provided five-year old Keith Harris with the 3D-printed hand which he showed off to his classmates at Mossman Elementary School located in Houston. “When I first got my hand, I thought it would be difficult for me to do stuff with it,” Keith said to KPRC-TV. “I love it.” Keith was born with a rare condition called symbrachydactyly, a congenital abnormality where the ends of a person’s... Iron Man may be a fictional character in the land of comic books and Hollywood adaptations, but is such a suit out of the real of possibility? Apparently the U.S. Special Operations Command is determined to find out. They've teamed up with some of the brightest minds and researchers from various universities and laboratories to see if an Iron Man-like suit could be created for military applications. The goal is to build superior body armor than what's available today, as opposed to being able to fly up into the atmosphere like a tin version of Superman. Efforts to build better armor are already... Read more...
LG is launching its first Android-powered phone, the LG Ally. In addition to launching the new phone, LG is teaming up with Marvel Studios to launch a multi-platform marketing campaign for the phone and the upcoming summer film Iron Man 2. As part of the marketing campaign, you'll get a special edition Iron Man 2 comic book when you buy an LG Ally, LG Chocolate Touch, or LG enV Touch phone. Rumors suggest this phone is headed to Verizon, though LG doesn't mention... Read more...
We've seen some pretty wild promotions in our day, but Dell's latest really has us scratching our heads. Starting today and for a limited time only, you can get Iron Man preloaded on a select Dell laptop or desktop for an additional $20. This is not the Iron Man DVD or Blu-ray disc, but a digital movie file (Windows Media format) pre-loaded onto the system's hard drive. Currently the three system options are an Inspiron 1525 (starting at $649), an XPS 420 (starting at $899), and an XPS 630 (starting at $1,299). Don't get us wrong--we think Iron Man was one of the best movies to come out in 2008,... Read more...
