Sharp has been hitting it out of the park with display technology recently, and that technological prowess is on full display with the company’s new 27-inch 8K (7680x4320) IPS IGZO display. We’ve seen 8K panels before, but they’re usually on the larger side of the spectrum (i.e. LG’s 98-inch UH9800 8K television). Sharp’s latest monitor, however, crams all of those pixels into much smaller package at 326 pixels per inch (giving it about the same pixel density as a 4.7-inch Apple iPhone 7). How many pixels can you cram on a smartphone display? A whole bunch, is our technical answer. As proof of this, Sharp announced the creation of the world's first (and of course only) 5.5-inch mobile display with an Ultra HD 4K resolution. Yes, that's 3840x2160, which works out to a mighty impressive 806 pixels per inch. Citing a Greek-language blog that seemingly managed to obtain information and Japanese-language press images from Sharp, PhoneArena says the 4K smartphone display is scheduled to go into mass production in 2016. The old notion that tablets should only be a certain size or two is long gone, and to that end Sharp has one in the works that boasts a 15.6-inch 3K display from IGZO. The big slate runs Windows 8.1 Pro (with a Windows 7 Pro SP1 downgrade for those who prefer), and there are some impressive specs under the hood. The tablet (RW-16G1) has a dual-core Intel Core i5-4200U (1.6GHz) processor, 4GB of memory, Intel HD 4400 graphics, and a 128GB SSD--in other words, ultrabook specs.
