CyberPowerPC isn’t the only boutique gaming PC maker building tiny PCs this week. iBuypower announced a new rig of its own called the HEXA Ultra Compact Performance System, which is available in both Intel and AMD flavors. On the Intel side, the HEXA will come with the Intel Core i7-4770R with Intel Iris Pro 5200 graphics while the AMD version will rock the AMD (Richland) A8-5557M APU. Expect 8GB of DDR3-1600 SO-DIMM memory and a 500GB (5400 rpm) HDD with Windows 8.1 and WiFi and Bluetooth (via a mini PCIe module) in base configurations. Ports include mini DisplayPort, HDMI, four total USB... Read more...
iBUYPOWER offers a handful of PC series that target different audiences, and with the world of cryptocurrency on fire, the company has now decided to target that audience as well. The biggest difference between iBUYPOWER's 'Mine' PCs and the others is that AMD's graphics cards come standard - something that won't strike those who already mine digital coin as a surprise. To help those wanting to get into mining that might not be too familiar with it, iBUYPOWER gives some performance figures to help the basic gauge of performance be better understood. A configuration with a single Radeon R9... Read more...
We’ve been eagerly anticipating the launch of Steam Machines ever since last year’s CES when we were limited to show floor scuttlebutt and a distant peek into Valve’s booth, where the company was holding partner meetings and (sort of) displaying Steam Machine prototypes. (Pictured: A total bummer) We’re thankfully done waiting to see what boutique gaming PC builders would come up with to run Valve’s SteamOS. We already got a whiff of Digital Storm’s cooking, and here are several more. CyberPowerPC Steam Machine CyberPowerPC has Steam Machines built on both AMD... Read more...
iBuypower is offering an AMD-based system in its Chimera 4SE line, which is designed to give users serious gaming performance without a wallet-busting price tag. The Chimera is part of iBuypower’s Signature Series, which includes iBuypower’s highest-priced and most powerful gaming systems, like the Revolt and Valkyrie. The centerpiece of the Chimera 4SE FX Ultimate is an all AMD-based CPU/GPU combo. The processor is a 4.7GHz (5.0GHz with Turbo), eight-core AMD FX-9590, designed with overclockers in mind. It’s cooled by a closed-loop liquid cooler, which seems to be the way most...
So, what makes a desktop PC a Chimera 4SE? The chassis, for one thing. The Chimera has a custom chassis with unique artwork that makes the Chimera easily identifiable. (We talk more about the chassis on the next page.) Overclocking is another Chimera feature.... Read more...
Part of Valve’s Steam Machines gaming strategy is to employ third-party builders, and the first of those has been revealed. Boutique gaming PC builder iBuypower showed off its first two Steam Machine prototypes, dubbed Gordon and Freeman, that will enter the market to compete with gaming consoles mainstays Xbox One and PS4. The two models are the same, but one has a clear light band around the middle while the other remains black when it’s not lit (according to Engadget), and they’re currently running an almost-finished version of Steam OS. Of course, they’ll ship with at... Read more...
Technically, iBuypower could claim co-ownership of the “world’s thinnest 17-inch gaming notebook” with CyberPowerPC; the latter’s ZeusBook Ultimate series measure just 0.85 inches, as does the former’s new Battalion Ultra-thin M1771 series. Both are a hair thinner than Razer’s slim gaming machine. The portable gaming rigs feature up to a quad-core Intel Core i7-4700HQ processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M (2GB) with Optimus, 16GB of DDR3-1600MHz memory, and a one-two combo of a 256GB SSD and a 1TB (7200 RPM) hard drive. The display is 17.3 inches (1920x1080) with... Read more...
Custom PC makers are getting increasingly creative, particularly with small form factor gaming systems. There was a time when a lot of the sexiest gaming rigs consisted of high-end components mounted in large, gaudy (but fun) chassis with lots of lights, a killer paint job, and perhaps a wild mass of liquid cooling tubes and hardware. Although those systems are still around, and we still love to play with them, the boutique builders are using their design and engineering skills to build smaller systems that still pack a mean punch on the performance side. iBuypower's Revolt is a perfect example... Given all the frenzy around ultrabooks, Microsoft's Surface, and the low power potential of future chips like Haswell, you might think that desktop replacement-class laptops had fallen out of favor with modern laptop manufacturers. iBuyPower's CZ-17 "Valkyrie" is proof that they haven't -- and while its size and weight won't appeal to road warriors or anyone who needs a svelte portable, it packs a number of significant features into its chassis, at a price that won't break the bank... iBuyPower Valkyrie CZ-17 Gaming Notebook Review... iBuyPower is adding a line of gaming notebooks to its family of custom systems with the Valkyrie series; the first model up is the CZ-17, which comes in two flavors, each of which are further customizable. The lowest point of entry is the $1,299 version of the CZ-17, which sports a backlit keyboard, 17.3-inch full HD matte display, and touch panel (above the keyboard) and runs on an Intel Core i7-3610QM processor with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M (1.5GB) graphics. It has 8GB of DDR3-1333MHz memory onboard and an 8X DVD+/-RW combo drive, and the built-in 4-in-1 card reader, THX TrueStudio Pro audio,... Read more...
Back when you had to play with dip switches and before overclocking became vogue, the risk of damaging your processor was greater than it is today. There are so many safeguards built into the motherboard, BIOS, and processor itself that it's fairly difficult to nuke a CPU these days, though not impossible. Intel's 'Performance Tuning Protection Plan' offers overclockers some piece of mind in the form of a one-time replacement for fried chips, and now you can now select it as an optional upgrade on all new iBuyPower gaming systems. "Our customers often push their systems to the limits in an effort... Read more...
Boutique system builder iBuyPower and mega electronics chain Best Buy have inked to a deal to become BFFs and give the former more mainstream exposure and the latter a bit of street cred. Or in other words, Best Buy is now carrying custom built high-performance gaming systems from iBuyPower, including the immediate availability of no less than 23 systems.
