HTC has been accused of copying Apple’s iPhone 6/6s design with its latest smartphone, the One A9. That’s not exactly a fair accusation however, since the iPhone 6 has many of the same design aesthetics as some of HTC’s previous One flagship phones, particularly the One M7 which launched in 2013. Regardless of where the design inspiration for the One A9 originated, one thing is certain: the One A9 is a good-looking smartphone with an all-metal unibody design and four attractive colors, which include Deep Garnet, Carbon Gray, Opal Silver, and Topaz Gold. All drama aside, the HTC One A9 is a mid-range... Read more...
It's sure been an interesting month for HTC. When the company introduced its One A9 in late October, it looked like a solid offering overall, even if it looked like it plucked some design cues from Apple's iPhone (something an HTC exec vehemently denies). Things became odd, though, when the company bumped the phone's price up to $499, when its debut price of $399, per most opinions, is exactly where it should have remained. And, as if things couldn't get any stranger, the phone took its good ole time reaching consumers after launch. Oy, HTC. Well, before the One A9 situation can smooth out, we're... Read more...
We’re beginning to wonder if HTC execs are asleep at the wheel as hits every pothole and speed bump in the road ahead at full speed. The company first came under fire for allegedly ripping off the design of the iPhone 6/iPhone 6s with its new One A9 smartphone — a claim that it shrugged off, citing that it was in fact the victim of Apple’s Xerox machines. Next, the company caught heat for introducing the One A9 at a price tag of $399, only to jack the price up to $499 earlier this month. And if that wasn’t enough, the company stated earlier this week that shipments of the smartphone have been delayed,... Read more...
The rollout of HTC's latest smartphone, One A9, has been quite interesting to say the least. When it was first announced, it was impossible to look at it and not think that its design was inspired by Apple's iPhone, something a company exec vehemently denied. But then HTC pulled the odd move of announcing that the phone would become $100 more expensive ($499) after November 7th. At the promotional price of $399, the A9 isn't priced unfairly, but it's not exactly priced in such a way that it'd have a great pull on those mulling their next phone purchase. The market is getting more competitive than... Read more...
Have you ever watched a friend that was once on top of the world spiral out of control in his later years? Maybe it was drugs or alcohol that brought him down, but whatever the case, there's a feeling of pity and perhaps even guilt for not being able to do anything about it. In some ways, it feels the same rooting for HTC. No, I'm not saying that HTC employees are snorting lines of blow or drowning their sorrows in a whiskey river. But the company does show signs of imploding. Following a string of revenue losses over the past several months, HTC has decided to no longer issue guidance on its future... Read more...
Last week, HTC unveiled its latest smartphone, One A9, to a decent amount of fanfare. Rather than stand on its own, though, the buzz around the Internet was that the phone was a rip-off of Apple's iPhone. HTC didn't take too kindly to this criticism, and commented a couple of days later that it's in fact Apple that ripped off its own One M7, released back in 2013. Wherever the truth lays in that, it doesn't much matter, because the One A9 is a great-looking phone, period. Part of that owes thanks to the great color selection, which includes Deep Garnet, Carbon Gray, Opal Silver, and Topaz Gold.... Read more...
HTC went out on a limb when designing its Re camera, a handheld recorder that's shaped like a periscope (it looks like a high tech inhaler). But it's the price that's probably holding it back more than anything else from mass adoption. It debuted at $199,putting it in direct competition with GoPro, such as the GoPro Hero+ HD ($199.99). That was before HTC slashed 75 percent off the price of its Re camera. The Re is now on sale for $50 on HTC's website. And yes, HTC uses the words "on sale" in its listing, so it appears this is a temporary price cut and not a permanent slash. However, there's no... Read more...
Ever since we first saw renders of the One A9 leak to the web, we all took notice of its similarity to the iPhone 6 (and the iPhone 6s). Some thought that the overall shape of the smartphone and the plastic antenna lines running across the back of the device bared more than a passing resemblance to the Apple’s best-selling smartphone. However, many were quick to point out that it wasn’t HTC that copied Apple — it was the other way around. HTC brought out the One (retroactively named the One M7) in 2013 which featured an aluminum unibody design and those same, thin antenna breaks in the rear of... Read more...
Today’s unveil of the HTC One A9 was simply a formality; images, renders and specs for the smartphone have leaked like crazy over the past few weeks. Unfortunately, those of you expecting a crazy, high-powered follow-up to the One M9 will be disappointed. The HTC One A9 has its feet firmly planted in mid-range land.  The One A9 is powered by Qualcomm’s new octa-core Snapdragon 617 processor, which includes an integrated Snapdragon X8 LTE controller. You’ll find a 5-inch edge-to-edge Full HD AMOLED display that’s covered in Gorilla Glass 4. It includes an integrated fingerprint reader and for... Read more...
We've said it before and we'll it again, it's insanely difficult to keep a secret in this day and age of the Internet. Think about the last time there was a product launch without a leak beforehand. It happens on occasion, though more often than not, the Internet provides an early glimpse of what's to come. Today the Internet is sharing what look to be official press renderings of HTC's forthcoming One A9 handset, plus a spattering of specs. Though HTC hasn't officially announced its One A9 phone, Orange France let the cat out of the bag by inadvertently posting live a product page for the handset.... Read more...
HTC is having a terrible time keeping its One A9 handset under wraps. There have been several leaked photos to hit the web, including a set of press renderings that show a colorful lineup and, more recently, some shots of the actual phone, albeit a so-called dummy unit that's used for display in stores.Twitter user @OnLeaks posted the most recent photos, which show the One A9 (codenamed HTC Aero) from various angles, including both front and back shots. As we've seen before, the One A9 looks a lot like Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s smartphones, save for the software (the One A9 is very much an... Read more...
HTC President Jason Mackenzie shed some light on why his company is not committing to monthly security updates for Android like Google, LG, and Samsung all do. According to Mackenzie, a monthly release schedule is simply "not realistic," not when HTC has to go through the process of receiving approval from wireless carriers each time it doles out an update.Mackenzie stated as much on Twitter in response to a user asking why HTC wasn't following in the footsteps of other phone makers who have promised monthly security updates. He explained that "in order to push an update you have to get carrier... Read more...
Famed leaker Evan Blass (known on Twitter as @evleaks) posted what look to be official press photos of HTC's unreleased One A9 handset (codenamed Aero). Due to launch sometime this fall, the One A9 is a premium looking device that will inevitably draw comparisons to the design of Apple's latest iPhone 6 models (probably not by accident). It starts with the overall shape of the One A9, which more closely resembles an iPhone 6/6s than a One M9, the latter of which looks a bit wider. There are rounded corners and, on the backside, a pair of horizontal stripes near the top and bottom. The One M9 also... Read more...
Looking for a high end handset? Chances are you've eyeballed Galaxy devices from Samsung and iPhone models from Apple. Lest anyone forget, HTC is also a player in the performance smartphone segment, and to tempt users towards its One M9 handset, the company is offering a generous $100 in Google Play credit with purchase.Yes, we meant to put two zeros in that figure -- one hundred dollars, in other words. That's not an insignificant amount of credit, which you can use to purchase movies, music, games, and more. The only catch is that you have to purchase the device direct from HTC, which is going...
