When Apple unveiled its latest Mac Pro design at its WWDC last summer, the jokes wrote themselves. Shaped like a trashcan, some wondered if it was some sort of representation of the computer being "piece of junk". And I admit, with its open-topped design, I've pictured myself accidentally throwing a crumpled-up piece of paper into it forgetting it was a computer. All this time we thought the way to one-up Apple's iPad was to build a Windows- or Android-based tablet with all the features the iPad neglects. Boy were we off, or so hopes a company called Axon Logic. Never heard of them? If history is any indication, you soon will. That's because Axon has gone and put together a tablet -- the Axon Haptic -- that's primed for end users to slap a Darwin OS onto its slate, such as Apple's Mac OS X Snow Leopard. Art Studios Entertainment came close to joining a growing list of companies mired in lawsuits with Apple over copyright infringement centered around the installation of Apple's OS X on non-Macintosh hardware. Their newest product, EFI-X USB modules, allow users to boot to any operating system, including OS X, on any Intel-based machine. Their USA distributor, EFI-X USA, recently announced a high-end PC capable of running Mac OS X, potentially allowing consumers to create their own Mac systems.
