Despite the fact that Grand Theft Auto V was released over nine months ago, it continues to find its way into headlines sometimes for good reasons, other times for less-than-ideal reasons. But regardless of those reasons, publicity is publicity, and I'm sure Rockstar welcomes it. The game, which was recently announced to come to additional platforms this fall, once again finds itself in headlines today, and from an unsuspecting source: Lindsay Lohan. As it happens, a character in GTA V resembles Lohan slightly, and apparently shares a similar voice and clothes line. Generally, I write this kind... Read more...
When it comes to waiting for ports, mobile gamers sometimes have it worse than the PC crowd. How so? Consider that while PC gamers are chomping at the bit (or "champing," if you want to avoid a citation from the grammar police) to play Grand Theft Auto V on their platform of choice, mobile gamers are still waiting for GTA: San Andreas. Well, good news mobile users, your wait has almost come to an end. Rockstar Games today announced that San Andreas is headed to mobile devices next month. There aren't any screenshots to gawk at just yet, though Rockstar did say the mobile version will look better... Read more...
You have to love a trailer that requires you to enter your age. The new Grand Theft Auto V trailer is out, and it looks simply amazing. The fluidity is one of the most immediately notable features, and indeed, Rockstar Games says that it’s focused quite a bit on improving mechanics. Driving and shooting, of course, got an upgrade, but so did a host of tangential activities, such as playing golf and tennis, riding bikes, scuba diving, hunting (animals, that is), yoga, and more. This version of GTA has three “heroes”, all with distinct backgrounds and personalities, and you get... Read more...
If this was in the U.S., you can bet Jack Thompson would be all over it.  Since it's Thailand, not exactly a media-friendly country, we may never hear about it again, except perhaps in shareholder reports. Police claim that the youth showed no sign of mental instability while he was being questioned. He told police that he hadn't intended to kill the 54 year old driver. "He said he wanted to find out if it was as easy in real life to rob a taxi as it was in the game," said the police chief. A government official with Thailand's Cultural Surveillance Center told Reuters: "This time-bomb has... Read more...
Grand Theft Auto IV sold six million copies in its first week alone, netting $500 million for its publisher, Take-Two Interactive. That's even better than the wildest estimates by industry pundits, and probably will make Electronic Arts' bid to purchase Take Two a whole lot more expensive. The significance of the sales extends beyond buoying Take-Two, a company that has had its share of legal, financial and management struggles in the last few years. The company is the subject of a $2 billion hostile takeover effort by Electronic Arts, which is offering Take Two shareholders $25.74 a share for... Read more...
Wait, wait, Barack, it's a game.  They're not wasting real gasoline.  Oh, wait, that's not his point.Obama's comments came during a campaign stop in Indianapolis. He told the crowd, "I was just catching the news this morning about Grand Theft Auto, this video game, which is gonna break all records and make goo-gobs of money for whoever designed it."Now, this isn’t intended for kids, although I promise you there are kids who are playing it, but these video games are raising our kids," Obama continued. "Across the board, middle-class, upper-class, working-class kids, they’re spending a... Read more...
It's not the same as the "Hot Coffee" scandal, but it's something. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) has Grand Theft Auto IV in its sights over the inclusion of a drunk driving module in the game.Noting that drunk driving claims nearly 13,500 lives each year, MADD said that it is "extremely disappointed" that the game lets users get virtually drunk and then get behind the wheel of an equally virtual automobile."Drunk driving is not a game and it is not a joke," MADD said. "Drunk driving is a choice, a violent crime, and it is also 100 percent preventable."MADD is asking the Entertainment Software... Read more...
Grand Theft Auto IV has created a frenzy of news stories, including rave reviews and record sales, but the one that has gamers hot under the collar: freezes.Last month, the launch of Rockstar Games' Bully on the Xbox 360 was marred by a bevy of crash bugs and other glitches. With this morning's heavily anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto IV for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Rockstar finds itself dealing with still more troubleshooting trouble, as online forums are buzzing with reports of crashes.Reports are that the 60GB PS3 is most likely to see this issue.  Rockstar's only workaround... One of our favorite uses for all this hardware, gaming, is starting to generate titles large enough to effect other parts of the entertainment industry.  No longer are A-list games only competing with each other for sales, but now it seems that the latest movie releases are being factored into the equation.  Of course, whatever effects the studios also has an impact on their bottom line:"We anticipate the video game release of GTA IV on April 29 could dampen the potential from Iron Man’s theatrical release on May 2," (Janco Partners analyst Mike) Hickey said in a Wednesday note regarding... Grand Theft Auto has always served as the poster boy for video games that drive parents and government officials up the wall. Take-Two Interactive Software took a lot of heat for the violent and sexualized content, and made a whole lot of money selling it.  But they've had trouble coming up with a follow-up to their signature title.  It looks like their gamble on the new first person shooter -sort of- called " BioShock" is just what the doctor ordered for their ailing bottom line. The game is part first-person shooter, horror flick, and morality tale. Players explore a failed underwater... Read more...
If you’re an avid YouTuber, then you might want to pay close attention to this new way to spread viruses.  New methods of virus distribution tend start with just one or two people doing it, but copycats come out of the woodwork at a stunning rate. The new method shows viewers a web site URL during the presentation and encourages them to go there to download the virus-infected software.  Luckily the virus doesn't seem to take full effect until a reboot, so if you've downloaded the "mod" and haven't rebooted yet, now would be the time to run your anti-virus/spyware... Grand Theft Auto, the highly popular and controversial game from Rockstar Games, is continuing to take the heat in a high-profile murder trial. Codey Posey has been convicted of killing his father, stepmother, and stepsister, after claiming years of abuse. However, various attorney's, including famous antigame activist Jack Thompson, are still trying to argue that the murders would have never taken place, if it weren't for the carnage found in Grand Theft Auto. "Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto franchise is once again the target... Read more...
