The forthcoming wearable will be Samsung's 7th generation Gear smartwatch, and leading up to the launch, Samsung for the first time is making its wearable software development kit (SDK) available to developers before the official product announcement. Over on Samsung's developer portal, the company shows a giant, circular watch face with the tag line, "Get ready for the next Gear." Underneath is a series of smaller watch faces,... Read more...
Who says you'll have to settle for second-best when trying to compute on a smartwatch? Samsung's Gear S watch now has its first full browser en route courtesy of Opera. The company has announced that it'll bring Opera Mini, a data-saving browser, to the Tizen-based Gear S. The browser isn't just a straight port, either. It'll include a handful of touch-friendly features that'll make smartwatch interactions more seamless -- for example, the website shortcuts on Opera Mini’s Speed Dial appear as large buttons, enabling Gear S users to reach their favorite sites in a single tap. To zoom, double-tap... Read more...
There’s some question about how popular the original Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch ended up being, but in any case Samsung announced an update for the Gear that will bring it up to par with the Gear 2 (at least as far as software is concerned). Both devices now have the same user experience. The optional Tizen OS update will primarily give users access to twice the apps as before (140)--which isn’t saying all that much, as we discovered with the Gear 2. Gear 2 Still, the Gear does get some nice updates. You can now store and directly play back music from the device, and Samsung’s... Read more...
