NVIDIA has some big things planned for owners of its SHIELD portable gaming device. In addition to bringing new features and capabilities to SHIELD though an upcoming software update, NVIDIA will be upgrading the base OS to Android KitKat, and redesigning the interface of SHIELD’s gamepad mapper to make it more user friendly. Changes are coming to TegraZone as well; it will receive an integrated news feed and a UI facelift designed to better organize and discover games. We were impressed with NVIDIA’s SHIELD portable gaming system when we reviewed it in depth, but NVIDIA announced even more features that bump the device’s prowess up even further. The most notable update concerns GameStream, a tool that’s fresh out of beta and lets users stream games from your (GeForce GTX-equipped) PC to SHIELD; even better, in Console Mode, you can use a controller and GameStream to play on a big screen. Day two of NVIDIA’s tech event began with a keynote from CEO Jen-Hsun Huang about NVIDIA’s commitment to gaming and bringing high-quality gaming technology to all platforms, specifically referencing the PC, Android and cloud gaming. He also re-iterated yesterday’s announcements regarding PhysX Flex, GI Works, and Flame Works, which you can read about right here.
