Samsung's Galaxy S III is widely considered to be the best Android smartphone currently available, if not the best smartphone regardless of platform (iPhone 4S and 5 owners might have something to say about that), and so it almost seems criminal that it's not rocking the latest and greatest version of Google's open source operating system, Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). If you own a Galaxy S III, hang in there, a Jelly Bean update is in the works. That's the good news. The bad news? Samsung said it will be rolling out Android 4.1 to Galaxy S III owners in the U.S. "in the coming months," so there's... Read more...
Extrapolate from this what you will, but when it comes to browsing the Web, Apple's iPhone 5 device is generating more traffic than Samsung's Galaxy S III, according to data collected by Chitika Insights. The research firm says it conducted a "user agent analysis on millions of mobile ad impressions," and did so for a week straight (October 3rd through October 9th). During that time, 56 percent of the Web traffic came from iPhone 5 users. "The Galaxy S III has been available in the U.S. for nearly four months, and posted impressive sales figures – even beating out domestic sales of the iPhone... Read more...
Samsung likes to rub it in Apple's face that "the next best thing is already here," but for tried and true Android users, the next best thing on the open source side of the mobile fence is Jelly Bean (Android 4.1.x) on the Galaxy S III. Well, move over Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0.x), because here comes Jelly Bean. Recent forum reports reveal that Samsung has begun rolling out Jelly Bean on its flagship smartphone in Poland, via the company's Kies synchronization software. A few other eastern European countries also seem to be receiving the update. If true, the Jelly Bean rollout is a little... Read more...
If Apple wasn't worth over half a trillion dollars, we'd almost feel bad about Samsung's comically disparaging ads aimed at the iPhone maker. Sometimes the truth hurts, however, and far be it for us to discourage Samsung from making us laugh by pointing out how silly the whole Apple culture has become. The latest ad (embedded below) once again pokes fun at the annual ritual of iPhone buyers braving long lines in order to have the latest and greatest version of their iOS device on the day of release. Samsung ran a similar ad campaign when the Galaxy S II was competing against the iPhone 4S, and... Read more...
Samsung may have lost its patent dispute with Apple, but it's winning the war of words with clever advertising. The mobile carrier took out a full page ad to highlight the differences between its own Galaxy S III smartphone and Apple's recently announced iPhone 5 device, the latter of which is racking up pre-orders at a feverish pace. Lest anyone bother to look at the specs, however, the Galaxy S III touts several advantages compared to Apple's latest and greatest. We covered many of them already, but in short, the Galaxy S III boasts a bigger screen (4.8 inches versus 4 inches), a higher resolution... Read more...
It's no secret that Samsung's GALAXY S III smartphone is a hot phone. Today, Samsung announced the phone has reached a record 20 million in sales in just 100 days. The phone originally made its debut in May 2012. With this record, the GALAXY S III has become the most successful smartphone Samsung has released to date. As you may recall, the GALAXY S III features a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED touchscreen (1280x720), a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 2GB RAM, 16 GB or 32 GB of internal memory, an 8MP rear-facing camera, a 1.9MP front-facing camera, and a 2100 mAh Lithium Ion battery.... Apple beat Samsung to a pulp in court over patent infringement claims and is now owed over a billion dollars in damages, but when it comes to stateside smartphone shipments, Samsung has reason to boast. The company's flagship Galaxy S III device topped the iPhone 4S in smartphone sales in the U.S. in August, which is the first time that's happened. "We believe this is the first month since the iPhone 4S launched in October 2011 that it was not the top-selling smartphone in the U.S. market," said T. Michael Walkley, a Canaccord Genuity analyst. Be careful not to read too much into that. American... Read more...
Despite Samsung losing  a billion dollar patent case to Apple, the company's Galaxy S III smartphone isn't among the list of infringing products and, for the time being, appears safe from potential sales bans in the U.S. Regardless of whether or not that changes, current owners will reportedly be able to grab an Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) update for their prized smartphone next month. Samsung revealed the news during its IFA keynote in Berlin. The company didn't mention an exact release date, only that Jelly Bean is coming. The news is far from a total surprise. For one, the Galaxy S III is... Read more...
In this day and age of instant gratification, it can be tough to sit back and wait, but that's exactly what you have to do if you're holding out for a 64GB Galaxy S III smartphone from Samsung. The good news is that the 64GB model hasn't been cancelled, even though there have been reports of some overseas retailers nixing orders. "The 64GB model of the Galaxy S III will be available during the second half of this year," Samsung said in a statement. "The market availability and timing may vary and will be determined at the time of release." As it stands, the Galaxy S III is currently available with... Read more...
It's not uncommon for a carrier to brag about being the only carrier in the U.S. to offer a particular smartphone. However, since many smartphone manufacturers are starting to offer the same (or very similar) smartphone to different carriers, carriers are losing these bragging rights. In an attempt to continue to differentiate themselves from others, many carriers are turning to color to stand out. To that end, Sprint recently announced it would begin offering the HTC EVO 4G LTE in white on July 15. In addition, AT&T announced it will offer the popular Samsung Galaxy S III in Garnet Red on... For the average consumer, saying the word "bootloader" will get you a blank stare. But for hardcore Android hackers, it's a touchy subject. You see, an unlocked bootloader gives users the ability to easily root their phone and install a custom ROM. In other words, hack into their phone and put a custom build of Android on there. Phone makers are bashed or praised based on if one's bootloader is able to be unlocked, but oftentimes carriers have something to say about it as well. In the case of the Samsung Galaxy S III, a new Android smartphone that's available across a number of U.S. carriers, Samsung... Read more...

AT&T customers who have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the popular Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone at their local store won't have to wait much longer. The wireless carrier announced plans to offer the smartphone in stores on July 6. Customers who preordered the phone should have already received their device; AT&T says "thousands" of its customers placed preorders. In addition to announcing store availability on July 6, AT&T plans to offer the Galaxy S III online with overnight shipping starting on the same day. AT&T isn't the first carrier to face shipping delays with... Read more...
It's no secret that Samsung's Galaxy S III has been a huge hit among Android fans. As a result, the company is already predicting impressive sales numbers. In July, Samsung expects sales of the latest Galaxy smartphone to surpass 10 million. Of course this is on a global scale, not just in the United States. What's remarkable is that the Galaxy S III has the potential to hit the 10-million milestone within two months of its launch. Samsung began offering the Galaxy S III in Europe on May 29. The phone was released to U.S. carriers last week. Yesterday, Samsung began offering the phone in its home... Read more...
