Apple's latest iPhone models were beat out by a pair of Samsung Galaxy devices in a new smartphone brand study released today by the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI). The 2013 study provides satisfaction benchmarks for 10 of the past year's best-selling smartphone models in the U.S. and rates them on a scale of 0-100, with higher scores representing higher levels of satisfaction. Samsung's Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II both took top honors by scoring 84 on the 100-point scale, beating Apple's iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S, both of which scored 82. The iPhone 4 scored 81. Curiously missing... Read more...
A Reddit forum user is claiming that his Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone overheated and caught on fire in the wee hours of the morning, burning a hole in his mattress and filling his two-story home with the foul stench of burning plastic and electronics. It was a "loud noise and a weird squeaking sound" that originally awoke Reddit user "vizionx1208" from his slumber only to find that his smartphone was toasting itself. "I jumped out of bed and turned the light on, only to see that my phone was just beginning to go on fire," vizionz1280 explains. "I dumped a glass of water I had in the room on... Read more...
In Samsung's world, the talk of the Galaxy is all about the recently unveiled S4 with its plethora of fancy new features and hardware enhancements, but don't go hating on its predecessor. The Galaxy S III is still a capable smartphone, which is why Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile are so excited to announce that they're now carrying Samsung's previous flagship device. "Samsung Galaxy S III is a premium smartphone designed to deliver one of the hottest handset experiences to consumers," said Jeff Hallock, senior vice president, Marketing-Sprint. "Offering this device on both Boost and Virgin Mobile... Read more...

One thing Samsung doesn't lack is a funny bone. Ask Apple, which has been repeatedly bopped on the head with it through a series of advertisements, both on TV and out in the wild. Want a second opinion? Talk to Research In Motion (RIM), Samsung's latest target in a new ad poking fun at people who refuse to give up their BlackBerry devices. The ad starts off with a group of developers discussing "Unicorn Apocalypse," a game that promises to be the biggest mobile game the company has ever launched. The team leader also announces a new smartphone policy, giving developers the freedom to use any smartphone... Read more...
Two great tastes that go great together are Jelly Bean (Android 4.1.x) and Samsung's Galaxy S III, and it just so happens that Jelly Bean is exactly what's on AT&T's over-the-air (OTA) menu. So go ahead Galaxy III owners and feast your phones on the OTA update, which is reportedly being rolled out today! Some of you may already have Jelly Bean installed on your Galaxy S III. It's actually been available to manually download and install via Samsung's free Kies software since early last month, beating both Verizon and U.S. Cellular to the punch in the U.S., though not Sprint and T-Mobile. Perhaps... Read more...
Kudos to Samsung for not resting on its laurels with what many would consider the best Android smartphone on the market (and you could argue it doesn't need the "Android" qualifier). We're of course talking about the Galaxy S III, and along with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, which both T-Mobile and AT&T have pushed out, Samsung is upping the ante with a Premium Suite upgrade. The Premium Suite upgrade applies to Galaxy S III devices running Jelly Bean and a includes a bunch of enhancements. Some of the highlights include: Page Buddy Contexual Menu Contexual Tag Multi Windo Auto Share Shot Paring... Read more...
Good news for Samsung Galaxy S III owners riding AT&T's wireless waves. An official Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update is now available for your device, beating both Verizon Wireless and U.S. Cellular to the punch (in the U.S.), though not T-Mobile, which has been doling out Jelly Bean for a few weeks. This is not an over-the-air (OTA) update, at least not yet. According to posts on Reddit, Jelly Bean is available on Samsung's Kies software (free download). "I can confirm this. Downloading it right now. For those who have never connected their S III to their PC on Kies via USB, you first need... Read more...
In a roundabout sort of way, Sony admitted that none of its smartphones are as good as Samsung's Galaxy S III or Apple's iPhone 5. No big revelation there, even if only looking at the sales figures. The Galaxy S III, for example, is currently the world's top selling handset, while Sony's Xperia line isn't even on the radar. And therein lies the problem. The solution? Build a better device, and that's exactly what Sony intends to do. In an interview with Financial Times Deutschland, Sony Mobile Sales and Marketing Chief Dennis van Schie said his company will soon reveal a "flagship model" that's... Read more...

Korean smartphone maker Samsung announced that it has sold more than 30 million Galaxy S III devices around the globe to date. Samsung's Polish division posted the announcement on Twitter and Facebook, along with a pic of what looks to be staff members celebrating the achievement, but has since pulled both posts offline, perhaps because it's preparing a formal press release. "We have already sold 30 million Samsung Galaxy S III phones worldwide! Have you had a chance to test its features?," Samsung's Polish division posted to Twitter. Samsung has reason to jump for joy. Despite all the lawsuits... Read more...
