Apple's latest iPhone models were beat out by a pair of Samsung Galaxy devices in a new smartphone brand study released today by the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI). The 2013 study provides satisfaction benchmarks for 10 of the past year's best-selling smartphone models in the U.S. and rates them on a scale of 0-100, with higher scores representing higher levels of satisfaction. Samsung's Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II both took top honors by scoring 84 on the 100-point scale, beating Apple's iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S, both of which scored 82. The iPhone 4 scored 81. Curiously missing... Read more...

One thing Samsung doesn't lack is a funny bone. Ask Apple, which has been repeatedly bopped on the head with it through a series of advertisements, both on TV and out in the wild. Want a second opinion? Talk to Research In Motion (RIM), Samsung's latest target in a new ad poking fun at people who refuse to give up their BlackBerry devices. The ad starts off with a group of developers discussing "Unicorn Apocalypse," a game that promises to be the biggest mobile game the company has ever launched. The team leader also announces a new smartphone policy, giving developers the freedom to use any smartphone... Read more...
Samsung was on to something when it decided to bridge the gap between a smartphone and tablet. Hence the Galaxy Note was born, which has since passed the torch to the Galaxy Note II. Samsung's second generation phablet (phone + tablet = phablet) is selling pretty well, achieving a million sales in South Korea since launching in September, the company announced. It gets more impressive. Domestic and worldwide sales reached 5 million units a month ago, which is three times higher than the first generation Galaxy Note achieved in early sales. It should be noted that Samsung sold 10 million Galaxy... Read more...

When we reviewed the Samsung Galaxy S III back in June, we had a chance to look at a cool use of NFC technology using Samsung's TecTile programmable NFC stickers and the corresponding TecTile Android app. Now, Samsung is updating the TecTile application to version 3.0. This new version is available just in time to be used with Samsung's latest NFC-enabled smartphone, the Galaxy Note II. As you may recall, TecTiles can be used for any number of tasks including launching applications, sending text messages, changing phone settings, and much more. With TecTile 3.0, you'll get plenty of new features... Read more...
Samsung has begun sending out invites for its Galaxy Note II press event in the U.S., which will take place in New York on October 24, just under two weeks from now. The Galaxy Note II, or "the next big thing," as Samsung likes to refer to it, is hardly a secret at this point, but what remains a mystery are pricing details and specific carrier launch dates. The event will also include a "special performance by an award-winning musical artist," presumably one that doesn't own an iPhone 5. As for what we already know about the device, the Galaxy Note II will be available through AT&T, Sprint,... Read more...
Samsung's first attempt at combining a smartphone with a tablet, sometimes referred to as a "phablet" was a huge success. Samsung has sold more than 10 million first-generation Galaxy Note devices, and the company is already looking ahead to the second-generation Galaxy Note II. In fact, Samsung mobile boss JK Shin is expecting the Galaxy Note II to be even more popular than its older brother: "Sales may grow more than two-fold (compared with the previous model)." Although there have been rumors to suggest Samsung was considering moving the release date of the Galaxy Note II up to beat the iPhone... Read more...
Taking a note from its Galaxy S III playbook, it appears Samsung may be preparing to launch the Galaxy Note II on all of the major US wireless carriers. Unlike the original Galaxy Note which initially launched on AT&T's network and later became available on T-Mobile's network, reports on the Web suggest the Galaxy Note II could be made available through AT&T, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, Sprint, and US Cellular. All of the US variants are said to offer the same specifications as the international version which features a 1.6GHz quad-core Exynos processor, 4G LTE connectivity (carrier specific,... Read more...
