There were lots of juicy bits at this year's E3 convention, among them a full five minutes of actual gameplay footage from the third installment in the Star Wars Battlefront series. What makes this trailer so exciting is that the gameplay is plucked from a PlayStation 4, as opposed to renders made with the game engine or cutscenes that don't actually depict gameplay graphics. It's a wild five-minute ride filled with TIE fighters, X-Wings (which you get to fly, by the way), AT-ATs, AT-STs, rebel troopers, stormtrooopers, lasers, lightsabers, and, well, you get the point. When... Read more...
There are several different contraptions designed to allow men to simulate what it's like being pregnant, but as most women will attest, none of them truly duplicate the experience. That's especially true when it comes to the act of child birth -- we're just not equipped for such things. However, that hasn't stopped male characters in The Sims 4 from getting pregnant. The quirky phenomenon appears to be an unintended side effect of the The Sims 4: Get to Work expansion pack. It's one of the more hilarious bugs the add-on brings to the game, and it has some Sims players intentionally trying to get... Read more...
This has been a tremendous week for Star Wars fans. First we got to see Han Solo and Chewbacca make an emotional appearance in the newest Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer (the second official trailer Disney has put out) and now Electronic Arts is treating us to a visual smorgasbord of cinema-quality footage showing the forthcoming Star Wars Battlefront game. Had you not known it was a game, it would be easy to mistake the trailer for an upcoming movie. Instead, you're seeing actual game engine footage of the multiplayer shooter, which was unveiled Friday at Star Wars Celebration, an annual... Read more...
The much anticipated first person shooter Battlefield Hardline released to retail in North America today for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Windows (it will launch in the EU on March 19th and in the UK on March 20). With the release comes a new live action trailer that plays out like preview for an action movie flick. Developed by Visceral Games in collaboration with EA Digital Illusions CE and published by Electronic Arts, the game is notable because it deviates from previous Battlefield titles by focusing on the age-old cops and robbers theme rather than traditional... Word is out that Electronic Arts has closed down Maxis Emeryville, the studio responsible for the buggy SimCity remake and, more recently, The Sims 4. Guillaume Pierre, a designer and lead gameplay scripter for SimCity, first revealed the news on Twitter saying, "Well it was a fun 12 years, but it's time to turn off the lights and put the key under the door. RIP Maxis Emeryville." Subsequent tweets would clarify that yes, "the shop is closing down," followed by confirmation from EA once the news spread. The timing really couldn't have been worse, as EA dropped the bombshell right in the middle... Read more...
Are games getting too complex? One person who thinks they are is Richard Hilleman, chief creative officer for Electronic Arts. Speaking at the D.I.C.E. Summit in Las Vegas recently, Hilleman lamented that games are "too hard to learn," pointing out that it can take several precious hours just to get in a groove with a basic title. "Our games are actually still too hard to learn. The average player probably spends two hours to learn how to play the most basic game," Hilleman said. "And asking for two hours of somebody's time--most of our customers, between their normal family lives...to find two... Read more...
Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll made the wrong call at the end of Super Bowl XLIX and potentially cost his team from being crowned back-to-back champions, though it played out almost exactly as simulated in Madden NFL 15 on the Xbox One, which correctly predicted the final score and winning team a week prior to the big game -- 28-24 in favor of the New England Patriots. In doing so, Electronic Arts' Madden franchise improves its record to 9-3 in annual Super Bowl simulations. That's impressive in and of itself, though this is the first time in a dozen Super Bowls that EA's football simulation... Read more...
Despite all the distractions over pigskin bladders this past week, the New England Patriots will be prepared for the staunch defense of the Seattle Seahawks and win Super Bowl XLIX, with quarterback Tom Brady earning the MVP award. So says Madden NFL 15 in an annual simulation that Electronic Arts has been doing for over a decade. It's worth bringing up that the annual Madden simulations have put together a record of 8-3 up to this point. Impressive, though not without some embarrassing misses, like predicting a Denver Broncos victory over the Seahawks last year to the tune... Read more...
Absent of any real fanfare or even a simple press release, publisher Electronic Arts has launched its new SimCity BuildIt game for iOS and Android devices. The all-new SimCity game is a free-to-play mobile title "designed for gamers on the go." Taking advantage of the touchscreens that adorn smartphones and tablets, SimCity BuildIt supports gestures like pinch, zoom, and rotate. "Evolve your city in a variety of ways. Meet your citizens' needs to keep them happy, or make questionable choices and feel your citizens' wrath," Electronic Arts states. Though it's free to download and play, the game... Read more...
There's a new Sims title in town, and it's unlike any previous version you've played before. The Sims 4, now available on PC, lets you create Sims that have their own personalities, and just as in real life, they change over time depending on how you interact with them. According to Electronic Arts, these new Sims are smarter, more relatable, and emotionally aware. "Every Sim is unique in The Sims 4, your own individual creations that come to life with big personalities and endless possibilities," said Rachel Franklin, Executive Producer for The Sims 4. "Who they are on the inside changes the way... Read more...
Looks like Electronic Arts is not holding back this year with its sports games. The video game publisher is expecting to make around $1 billion in revenue from downloadable content and is also taking steps to crack down on cheaters for its various sports titles. Madden NFL 15 is one of the key games to EA’s strategy. Aside from players paying $60 for the standard game, EA is pumping out a plethora of add-on content such as Ultimate Team players, jerseys, coaches, playbooks, and stadiums. The Madden Ultimate Team packs, which can be purchased with Madden Points, are a huge moneymaker for EA... Read more...
Electronic Arts has been in a giving mood lately. After discontinuing support for The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection last month, the publisher decided to give the game away at no cost through its Origin digital distribution service. And through its On-The-House program, EA has temporarily removed the price tags from several games, such as Peggle and Battlefield 3. Now Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger is up for grabs. Like previous titles that appeared on EA's On-The-House program, this one can disappear at any time, so pounce quickly if you want relive those awful cut scenes that we thought were... Read more...
Microsoft is digging deep in its bags of tricks to convince gamers that its Xbox One console is the better option versus Sony's PlayStation 4, the latter of which is maintaining a somewhat large sales lead. Following the launch of a Kinect-less console for a reduced $399 price tag, Microsoft has joined forces with Electronic Arts to offer a rather nifty gaming service. It's called EA Access and it runs $5 per month. Alternately, you can pay $30 for an annual membership and save 50 percent. Either way, you'll enjoy unlimited access to "The Vault," inside of which is a collection of four EA games.... Read more...
Good news, gamers! Electronic Arts has decided to donate The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection to anyone and everyone in need of a game to play. That's right -- the title is completely free, provided you claim your copy by July 31, 2014 at 10AM PDT. After that, the freebie promotion disappears, though it probably won't be the last time EA does something like this. So, that's the good news. And the bad? As you probably guessed, you have to claim and download the game through your Origin account. For some, that requirement is no big deal, but if you're turned off by EA's Origin service, this could be a... Read more...
