Rather than work things out in private, the FBI has chosen to drag Apple through court and force its hand in providing technical assistance in cracking the security of an iPhone 5c model that belonged to one of the San Bernardino shooters. There's been a lot of posturing on both sides, and with regards to the FBI, former NSA contractor turned whistleblower Edward Snowden says the agency is fully capable of unlocking the phone without Apple's help. Snowden is the latest high profile individual to offer up commentary in the feud between the FBI and Apple. He's also uniquely qualified to discuss what... Read more...
Former NSA contractor turned whistle blower Edward Snowden is a fan of Signal, a secure messaging app developed by Frederic Jacobs (iOS version). Snowden revealed on Twitter last November that he uses signal every day, which is a pretty strong endorsement considering his current situation. That's good news for Apple because Jacobs is joining the Cupertino outfit later this summer."I'm delighted to announce that I accepted an offer to be working with the CoreOS security team at Apple this summer," Jacobs posted to Twitter on Thursday. Edward Snowden, a former contractor for the National Security Agency who leaked confidential documents and information to the press regarding the U.S. government's PRISM program, says he has never been "so wrong," and for that he's "grateful." Let's add some context, shall we? Snowden says he was wrong to worry that his efforts and the risk he and the journalists who broke the story over the NSA's bulk collection of phone records would have been for nothing, "that the public would react with indifference, or practiced cynicism, to the revelations." "Never have I been so grateful... Read more...
Edward Snowden, former contractor for the National Security Agency (NSA) who blew the whistle on the U.S. government's spying efforts by disclosing thousands of classified documents -- is he a hero for what he did, a traitor, or something else? It's a discussion point that may be debated for decades for come, and is certainly being talked about now. Both Bill Gates and Steve Wozniak have an opinion on the matter, which they recently shared publicly. In an interview with Rolling Stones, the co-founder of Microsoft was critical of Snowden's actions, or at least the way he went about them. As a result,... Read more...
