Maybe today is the day to finally snap some photos of that old sofa and get it listed online. Facebook announced some new tools applicable to “For Sale” groups today that will spiff up your listings. The move takes Facebook’s For Sale groups out of the bush leagues and pits them against the likes of Craigslist. (Source: Facebook)The changes aren’t dramatic, which is probably a good thing. Much of Craigslist’s appeal is its simplicity and Facebook seems to feel similarly about its For Sale groups. Where once you wrote your listing in a typical post, you can now create a Sell post that... Read more...
Some of us are familiar with the concept of “burner” cell phones from movies involving copious amounts of crime, but wouldn’t you know it, there are also legitimately legal uses for a temporary cell phone or phone number, such as job searches, Craigslist communications, and so on. The Burner app gave iOS users the ability to generate disposable phone numbers, and now the same is available to Android users, as well. The free app download comes with one free Burner number, which allows for incoming and outgoing calls and text messages, voicemail, and the ability to earn free credits... Read more...
If Craigslist thought the suicide of the "Craigslist Killer," as well as the closure of its "Erotic Services" section (months ago) would move the focus of state Attorneys General away from it, it was sadly mistaken. The site was sent a letter on Tuesday demanding it shut down its new "Adult Services" section by 17 state AGs.  When Craigslist first proposed the "Adult Services" section as a replacement to the "Erotic Services" sections, it stated that it would have employees police the section, ensuring that no illegal ads were posted. The letter from state AGs said that Craigslist is not sufficiently... Read more...
All right, it's bad enough this 20-year-old has never kissed anyone, but advertising for a kissing teacher on Craigslist? I have been going out with a girl online for the last 5 years and she's finally coming down to see me on the 11th. She tells me it's a big turn-off if a guy doesn't know how to kiss, and she even dumped her last boyfriend because of this. I want to make a good first impression, but I've never kissed before! Please, I need a girl to practice kissing with, nothing... Read more...
It hasn't gotten a lot of play, but Wal-Mart has launched a free Internet Classified service, as sort of virtual bulletin board for people to buy, sell, and trade all of their worthless... oops, I meant valuable stuff. Wal-Mart's funneling their customers to an existing web service called Oodle.com. The service doesn't charge the seller or the buyer and is accessible through Walmart.com, the site the company uses to sell its own products. Wal-Mart said the new offering "further connects our community of 130 million customers who shop the Wal-Mart brand each week."A spokesman declined to comment... Read more...
Let's all hope Iran doesn't read this article, since we know a) they are trolling for F-14 parts, b) this report found some on eBay!Night-vision cameras and camouflage gear are probably available at your local Wal-Mart. But congressional leaders on Thursday voiced dismay at reports that "sensitive" military-issue equipment is being resold, potentially to terrorists, at Web sites like eBay and Craigslist and suggested new laws are necessary to ban that practice.Among the dozen items that mostly "undercover" government investigators purchased during a yearlong investigation of those two leading sites... After the mayor of Atlanta, Shirley Franklin, leveled allegations of child prostitution against Craigslist, it was reported that Craig Newmark may have stepped back from some of his more demanding corporate duties.Mr. Newmark’s profile was removed from the management page on the site, which opened the door to a lot of questions.  The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that they asked Craigslist spokesperon, Susan MacTavish Best, for details and she allegedly made a comment that Mr. Newmark was no longer involved in the daily affairs of the company. That early report is now being contradicted...
