What's that sound? Oh, it's just the collective sound of Fallout fans who'd rather not game on mobile platforms letting out a collective "Finally!". That's right: Bethesda's super-hot mobile game based on the Fallout universe, called Fallout Shelter, is coming to Xbox One, as well as Windows 10 PCs. Sorry, PlayStation fans. This is one of those times where you can hear about an announcement and not have to wait forever and a day for it to come to fruition. Microsoft says that Fallout Shelter will hit both of its platforms on February 8, and like the mobile game, it's going to be free to download,... Read more...
Retro gaming made a major resurgence this past holiday season, with the release of Nintendo’s ultra-hyped NES Classic, a scaled down clone of the original Nintendo Entertainment System. Out of the box, the NES Classic has thirty preloaded game titles, though some recent hacks exposed a method for uploading more if you're willing to mess with it. That's all well and good, but if you weren’t able to get your hands on one this past holiday season -- like the majority of people -- getting your retro-gaming fix isn't happening any time soon, unless you fork out an unreasonable sum, paying hundreds to... Gamers will have a new console to choose from in a couple of months. It is the Nintendo Switch, a hybrid gaming system that is built both for playing games on a big screen TV and for portable gameplay. Nintendo has not yet announced a price for its forthcoming system (along with a lot of other details), though according to Japanese-language news report, consumers should expect to pay around 25,000 yen (around $215 in U.S. currency). That is a roundabout estimation by Nikkei, the same Japanese-language paper that revealed key details about several of Nintendo's previous game consoles ahead of their... Read more...
With just a few months to go before Nintendo releases its next generation game console, the Nintendo Switch, we still know very little about the system. Much of what has been gathered about the Switch has been the result of leaks and online detective work by savvy individuals who willing to comb the web for clues. One of the newest ones was found in a filing with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and it points to the Switch using a non-removable battery. "The battery is had (sic) built-in in the EUT, and the user can't remove the battery," reads a blurb in one of the documents Nintendo... Read more...
Nintendo is planning to launch a brand new game console in just a few months, one that will attempt to bridge the gap between stationary and mobile gaming, but do not expect the new system to be faster than current generation consoles. The Switch, as it is called, is said to sport a graphics chip based on NVIDIA's previous generation Maxwell architecture and will be slower the original PlayStation 4 that Sony launched three years ago.Building a game system around Pascal might seem like the obvious choice so why didn't Nintendo go that route? Since the Switch is a hybrid console that gamers can... Read more...
We have been hearing a lot about how well the Xbox One line has been selling, most recently with Microsoft bragging about four consecutive monthly sales victories over the PlayStation 4. Is interesting in the PS4 dwindling? Pshaw! Lest anyone thing the PS4 is old news, Sony today announced that its cumulative sales of its PS4 and recently introduced PlayStation 4 Pro just surpassed 50 million units. The last official update we heard from Sony was back at the end of May when it announced that PS4 sales had topped 40 million units worldwide. That achievement made the PS4 the fastest selling PlayStation... Read more...
The NES Classic Edition game console is this year's Tickle Me Elmo, only it's not just kids who have it on their wish lists, it's adults too. And just like the Sesame Street doll, Nintendo's retro-themed miniature game console is sold out everywhere, save for second-hand sellers who have gone and jacked up the price on places such as eBay and Craigslist. If you really want to grab one in time for Christmas, you can pay a grossly inflated price, or you can try your chance at Toys R Us tomorrow. Toys R Us is kicking off its Christmas sale bonanza on Sunday. It's a week long event featuring an assortment... Read more...

The leaks surrounding Nintendo's upcoming NX console continue to flow. Last week, a website claimed to have received exclusive information about Nintendo's console, and depending on your perspective, it will either sound great or lackluster, if you weren't big on the Wii or Wii U. First and foremost, the biggest thing that would set the NX apart, if rumors are true, is that it'd be primarily a portable console - not portable like the PS Vita, but portable enough to pick up and walk around a house with. A TV wouldn't be removed from the equation entirely though; you'd be able to dock this portable... Read more...
Park the DeLorean and save your pricey plutonium, you don't need a time machine to relive those epic gaming moments from yesteryear. There's been a sudden resurgence in classic gaming as of late, first with Nintendo announcing a mini NES console pre-loaded with 30 games then with Sega unveiling a mini Genesis system with 80 built-in titles. If that weren't enough classic gaming goodness to make you feel young again, now Innex has announced a new Retro-Bit Generations plug-and-play console loaded with more than 100 retro titles! These aren't filler games, either, but at one time big name games from... Read more...
We learned last week that Sony is planning to release an updated PlayStation 4 console, one with much greater capabilities than the original. While specifics are being kept mum until later, Sony's confirmation of the 'PS 4.5' spurred questions about whether or not Microsoft would follow-suit, even though certain executives have shot down the idea in recent months. Well as it happens, Microsoft is going to be releasing an upgraded Xbox One, codenamed 'Project Scorpio'. It's said to be up to four times faster than the original Xbox One, which should put it well ahead of the PlayStation 4.5 (we still... Read more...

For what we're sure are obvious reasons, most game console makers are not fans of emulation. With an emulator in hand, you have the ability to download game ROMs ripped from the original source, which means you are playing a game you (might not have) paid for, potentially taking away profits from the original developer or publisher. That is, at least, if they happen to still sell the game in some capacity. There are a number of reasons why emulators are great though, as well. Even if you own the original games, being able to play them through an emulator is done for the sake of convenience, or... Read more...
AMD has some great news for both Microsoft and Sony as well as the legion of developers that produce content for their respective consoles: record sales can be expected in 2016. That also bodes well for AMD itself, since it produces the CPU and graphics chip (APU) that grace both consoles. The company is also intent on being the sole CPU/GPU vendor in the next generation of consoles, which it says we could see in 2019. While the next generation of consoles is still quite a ways off, one thing to look forward to is the fact that AMD claims the units will offer 5x the performance-per-watt of current... Read more...
