Beginning in 2009, a number of companies began building small "plug" computers, some of which plugged directly into an AC adapter (hence the name). One such manufacturer is Cloud Engines, which sells a series of plug computers aimed at making files available online without having to leave a PC running. Pogoplug started somewhat of a revolution when they figured out that a simple box could be used to put standard USB external hard drives onto the Internet, enabling remote access. They basically figured out how to market and sell the process of turning standard HDDs into NAS devices, and they've been progressing ever since. Now, with the consumer market behind them, it's the business market that's next on their radar.
