As the holiday season rapidly approaches, there’s one question that you’ll hear very frequently: Have you been naughty or nice? Of course, we all know that a lot hinges on this seemingly simple question. If you’ve been nice, then perhaps Santa will bring you an awesome gift, that one piece of hardware you've been jonesing for, like a Core i7 975 processor or perhaps the world-beating ATI Radeon HD 5970 Dual-GPU. On the other hand, if you’ve been naughty and have cursed your computer (hey, who hasn’t?) or ignored your significant other because Left 4 Dead 2 or Modern Warfare 2 beckoned, then you’d... Online retailing continues to grow at a frenetic pace. And internet savvy consumers know that you can trust online retailers and package delivery services to save you at the last minute at Christmastime. U.S. Web spending during the work week before Christmas grew 38 percent to $2.25 billion from last year. Holiday shopping as measured by the Reston, Va.-based research group doesn't include travel, auctions, or large corporate purchases. Got that Xbox 360 Santa dropped down the chimney revved-up on Gears of War?  Or perhaps your tennis elbow is acting up again, after years of dormancy, due to a little too much Wii-laxing? It's all about the consoles this year it seems.  And if you weren't careful you might dismiss the PC as a solid gaming platform.  Au contraire gadget-loving friends, the boys at GameSpot have a few "exclusive" screen shots to show you.  At least in terms of eye candy, the PC still still has it over the console; in our humble opinion of course.  Enemy Territory: Quake... What good is your HotHardware if you don't use it for nifty stuff? Bah spreadsheets! Hooray for Santa! And other than frickin' sharks with frickin' laser beams on their heads, nothing is more high-tech than NORAD, the North American Aerospace Defense Command. You can track Santa's progress on NORAD radar right on your computer. For more than 50 years, NORAD and its predecessor, the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD) have tracked Santa. The tradition began after a Colorado Springs-based Sears Roebuck & Co. store advertisement for children to call Santa on a special "hotline"... Read more...
Researchers at the University of Illinois have developed a process for printing all sorts of components right on a substrate, one right over another, that could be used to fabricate electronic and optical devices inexpensively. And it works on flexible or curved surfaces, too. The method could have an impact on various aspects of the display industry. Today's flat-screen LCD televisions are made in enormous, expensive chambers in which the electronics that control individual pixels in the display are formed on large slabs of glass. Rogers says...
