Windows 8 opens up a whole new world of possibilities in computing, and one of the recurring themes we've seen thus far is that of the convertible laptop. There are plenty to be seen at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, including two from Lenovo. The first is the ThinkPad Helix with a "groundbreaking 'rip and flip' design" that transforms the 11.6-inch Ultrabook into a powerful Windows 8 tablet. It's equipped with a Full HD 1080p IPS (In-Plane Switching) 10-point multi-touchscreen panel with pen touch input and Gorilla Glass, up to an Intel Core i7 processor (Ivy Bridge), up to... Audience has just announced their latest smartphone/mobile audio processor, the earSmart eS515. The earSmart eS515 combines the company’s advanced voice processing technology, which is already employed in many popular smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II, with a high-performance, low-power audio codec for enhanced voice quality and speech recognition and a better multimedia experience. By combining the sound processor with an audio codec onto a single chip, Audience is also able to cut power consumption and reduce off-chip communication for potentially better... Read more...

This evening, NVIDIA made some bold moves at their CES 2013 press conference and announced a couple of potentially game-changing products. CEO Jen-Hsun Huang spent a little more than 90 minutes talking to a captive audience at the press conference, which was held at the posh Palms Hotel in Las Vegas. He used the first couple of segments to show off the GeForce Experience utility, which launched in beta form a few weeks back, and the GeForce GRID server platform. Just to reiterate, GeForce Experience is designed to make PC gaming more “console like” by automatically configuring many... Read more...
NVIDIA is kicking off their CES 2013 onslaught a little early this evening with major announcements promised at an exclusive press event at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas at 8PM PST.  Buzz with folks in the know says that NVIDIA could officially take the wraps off Tegra 4, their next generation low power integrated System-On-a-Chip, based on integrated ARM cores and NVIDIA graphics engines and target for tablets and smartphones.  This wouldn't be the first time the company has unveiled new Tegra technology at CES, so speculation is running at a fevered pitch.  It has been said that... CES doesn’t officially start until January 8, but many of the pre-show festivities have begun. We just spent some time at the CES Unveiled event taking place at the Mandalay Bay resort and have some cool stuff show you. Amidst the myriad of funky gadgets, mobile accessories, and random doo-dads, there were a few PC-centric items to see, along with some serious geek porn. No, I didn't lick it... CES Unveiled is basically a huge ballroom crammed full of tables with hundreds of companies showing off some of their wares before the actual CES show floor opens at the Las Vegas Convention Center.... Is there an award for the world's most beautiful hard drive? Because if so, LaCie and famed designer Philippe Starck may have just created it. The pair debuted the Blade Runner today, an external hard drive that combines an anthropomorphic metal interior with an angular cage-like shell. In fact, only 9,999 of these will be produced, and each one is "custom-built." The drive utilizes USB 3.0, and also boasts an LED power button that glows to indicate activity. The LaCie Blade Runner is equipped with 10GB of complimentary Wuala Secure Cloud Storage and user-friendly backup software, and includes... Read more...
If you want the full touch experience of Windows 8 without investing in a brand new PC, Lenovo's ThinkVision LT1423p Touch Mobile Monitor might be the solution you're looking for. The LT1423p is a 13.3-inch display with a 10-point multi-touch Gorilla Glass screen featuring an anti-reflection and anti-fingerprint surface. It's designed primarily for traveling professionals who might benefit from having a second screen to play with, and a high-quality one at that. The LT1423p touts an IPS panel with a 1600x900 resolution and "incredibly wide viewing angle," Lenovo says. It comes with a Digitizer... Read more...
The desktop isn't dead by any stretch of the imagination, and if you don't believe, just ask Lenovo. Among Lenovo's upcoming desktop PCs (yes, that's plural) is the IdeaCentre Erazer X700, a high performance system for "extreme gamers" that begs to be overclocked. Like everything else Lenovo announced this weekend, the Erazer X700 pimps Microsoft's Windows 8 platform. More importantly, it packs some respectable hardware inside a diamond-cut chassis with blue LED lighting. Different configurations are available with support for up to an Intel Core i7 Extreme processor, dual-graphics cards (up to... Read more...
Among the many items Lenovo has chosen to announce just days before the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas is a new lineup of consumer and business Windows 8 touch-optimized notebooks. According to Lenovo, "people love touch," and the OEM is putting its money where its mouth is by aggressively integrating touch capabilities into an extensive line of PCs. Let's have a look at Lenovo's upcoming notebook products with touch. Lenovo's signature IdeaPad U310 and U410 mainstream Ultrabooks models are the first up to bat. These thin and light PCs feature 10-point multi-touch displays and are... Read more...
Microsoft likes to point out that Windows 8 represents a re-imagining of the Windows platform, and going along with that theme, Redmond's OEM partners are stepping outside the bounds of what constitutes a typical PC. A good example of this is Lenovo's IdeaCentre Horizon Table PC, or the world's first interpersonal PC, as Lenovo describes it. Based on the same concept as a convertible notebook, the Horizon can lay flat on any surface, but it's far too large to call a tablet. The 27-inch display allows for two or more people to use the screen at the same time and is ideally suited for touchscreen... Read more...
The doors of the Las Vegas Convention Center may still be largely sealed, but the news from CES 2013 is already starting to flow. Samsung is one of the major players showing up in Las Vegas to debut new products, and a new digital audio line-up will be a huge part of that. The company's 2013 AV products feature a number of wireless connectivity enhancements, including the industry's first soundbar that can connect with a TV using wireless Bluetooth technology. Samsung's Vacuum Tube Soundbar (model HW-F750) is the first soundbar to feature a built-in vacuum tube to maximize sound quality, and is... Read more...
Big news out of the Lenovo camp this morning. As the company prepares for CES, the public should start preparing for a very different Lenovo starting in April. Chairman and CEO Yang Yuanqing sent out an e-mail to employees over the weekend that made clear that Lenovo would be dividing its business into two units: Lenovo and Think. It's probably a wise move. IBM's former ThinkPad brand took on a life of its own a long time ago, and Lenovo may serve itself well to break Think off and let that brand flourish on its own. Yuanqing seems to think that the split will allow the company to focus more effort... Read more...
We haven't heard of too many busy professionals of late that have too much time, and no way to adequately watch all of the great television that's coming out these days. But, if you're looking for a way to soak in even more entertainment, DISH has today introduced the DISH Explorer app for iPad. It's described as a second-screen app for the Hopper whole-home HD DVR platform. It's built to combine program-discovery tools, social media engagement and remote-control capabilities. It'll be available in the App Store tomorrow, and will allow viewers to discover what shows are trending at the moment... Read more...
