Integrating a bit of cloud storage with a given product is nothing new, but HP is taking it a step further by offering some interesting deals from cloud service provider Box with some of its business desktops. Box offers some fine cloud services, including online storage, the ability to share large files, and online collaboration capabilities. Those who buy PCs in the HP Compaq 6200 Pro, 6005 Pro, or 8200 Elite series (through the HP Smart Buy program) get access to some Box services for free. With the HP Compaq 6200 Pro and 6005 Pro PCs, users get a free 10GB Box account for a year and then deals... Read more...
It’s all too easy to mentally equate Box (formerly known as Box.net) with Dropbox; they’re both cloud storage services, they both started out with simple and consumer-facing account options, and they both have “box” in their names. For that matter, they both use a blue-and-white color scheme. However, the two services increasingly look different. Dropbox is kind of exploding right now, increasing its integration everywhere and rapidly adding users, and the founder is quickly becoming one of those Silicon Valley tech celebs. Box flies a bit more under the radar, but the company... Read more...

A ton of new features have been added in recent months, and this month's no different. Version 1.1 of the Boxee Box firmware has just shipped, revamping a lot of stuff under the hood. Things like? Things like support for 16 new languages, bookmark + history in the browser, a revised Movie trailer library, new seek bar for playback of the on-screen display, a new share menu that allows users to choose where messages go, and... Microsoft may just have acknowledged that digital distribution of software, long (relatively) used for distribution and sales of games, may just be ready to hit the big time. In an understated announcement on a newsgroup, by an MVP, Microsoft has announced it is going to halt the sale of boxed copies of its Quicken competitor, Money Plus. Additionally, they have decided to skip a 2009 version. Here's the news from the newsgroup post: Microsoft Money Plus continues to be a valuable tool for our customers; however the feedback we are hearing is that the incremental updates to the software don't merit... Ah, the best laid plans. The cover of the Madden NFL '09 game was supposed to pay homage to the retiring Brett Favre. But then he decided to un-retire! What to do, what to do? Well, as far as EBGames goes, PhotoShop is the answer. The box is above, but see the below of their home page, as of this morning. Yep, they PhotoShopped the image of Favre into a Jets uniform. Besides that, Electronic Arts (EA) has also said the following:Madden NFL 09 will hit stores on Aug 12 with Brett Favre on the cover in his Green Bay Packers uniform. We do not plan to re-issue packaging, but WILL offer a free downloadable... Read more...
In some respects, when we think about what the capabilities of a $349 desktop system should be like, we can't help but be impressed what Asus has achieved and the overall value of the Eee Box. What's more impressive though is the Eee Box's absolutely tiny form-factor and completely miserly power consumption. The original Eee PC notebook cultivated quite an enthusiastic following in the marketplace and we think the Eee Box is likely to as well.Asus Eee Box B202 Video SpotlightOur more detailed full review can be found here.... McAfee has finally released the results of its S.P.A.M. (Spammed Persistently All Month) experiment, which began in March. The project: take 50 people from ten countries to defy common sense and for 30 days surf the Web on a computer with no anti-spam software. Not just that, they were to take risks, and respond to spam, to make matters worse.  The results were unsurprising. Of course, being the security company that it is, and having its own anti-spam product, McAfee has a vested interest in the results. It took less than 24 hours for the first spam message to reach an inbox. Over the 30... Read more...
