E FUN is preparing to launch a new line of Android tablets known as Nextbook. Within the Nextbook lineup, you'll find the Next2 tablet with a 7-inch TFT color display, Wi-Fi, 2GB of memory, a SD/MMC card slot, and a MP3/photo viewer. The Next2 will also come preloaded with 25 books, as well as videos and music. All of the Nextbook tablets will also have a preloaded Borders eBook Store application. A few weeks ago, Barnes & Noble introduced a new platform for getting content into eBook markets from people who do not have contacts at a publishing agency. Velocity Micro introduced a new line of Android-based color eReaders and tablets called Cruz. The new $199 Cruz Reader offers a 7-inch touch screen display, accelerometer, support for the Borders E-book library portal application, and plenty of multimedia features. The $299Cruz Tablet has the same multimedia capabilities as the Cruz Reader but also features more built-in storage and a multi-touch screen. Another bookstore is jumping on the eBook craze. Borders online recently announced plans to offer the Kobo eReader. The eReader is currently available for pre-order at www.borders.com/koboereader. It will ship in time for Father's Day. The new Kobo eReader is an affordable eInk device that will come preloaded with the Borders eBook app and 100 classic books. The eReader can store up to 1,000 eBooks. You may recall the case of Sebastien Boucher?  He was stopped in 2006 while crossing the U.S. - Canadian border and charged with transporting child pornography on his laptop across the border.  Unfortunately for the prosecutors, the data on the laptop is encrypted, and he now refuses to enter the necessary password to allow access to the files.  Additionally, a judge ruled late last year that he could not be compelled to reveal the password.Based on this ruling, and the recent policies enacted by the Department of Homeland Security, might we see more interest in disk encryption?... Internet years go by fast. Way back in ancient web history --2001-- Borders books thought it was a good idea to ally themselves with a fast-growing web portal called Amazon.com. Perhaps you've heard of it. I'm sure it seemed like an interesting sideline revenue stream to Borders enormous brick-and-mortar book sales at the time.
