Looking to stay connected regardless of your destination? It's a tough thing to accomplish, particularly when that destination is overseas. Boingo has become a pretty popular name when it comes to global hotspots, and AT&T has been doing a fine job of expanding its Wi-Fi hotspots as well. Now, the two companies are putting their heads together with a new Wi-Fi roaming agreement. Travelers abroad can now gain access, via the AT&T Wi-Fi International App, to Boingo's global network of Wi-Fi hotspots managed and operated by Boingo's subsidiary, Concourse Communications Group. The AT&T... Read more...
Those looking to keep their surfing sessions private -- really private -- may find themselves looking over their digital shoulders when using public Wi-Fi hotspots. Boingo is one of the largest providers of public Wi-Fi spots around the globe, and it's taking action this week to bring a personal VPN to its Wi-Fi app for Windows and Mac. The latest Wi-Finder app for Macbook and Windows laptop and netbook users includes the Boingo VPN (virtual private network) to help protect users against security exploits in public Wi-Fi hotspots. Boingo's VPN – previously launched on iOS apps -- allows users... Read more...
You could argue that the world would be a better, faster, and smarter place if it just had free Wi-Fi everywhere. And while that's a tall, tall task, Google and Boingo are stepping up the challenge, if only in a relatively small way. The two companies have announced today that millions of people will have access to free Wi-Fi at more than 4,000 hotspots thanks to Google Play. The Wi-Fi hotspots are part of Boingo's Cloud Nine Media platform, a global advertising network that enables brand advertisers to reach a captive audience through Wi-Fi sponsorships. Starting this week, Wi-Fi users with Android... Read more...

Is Wi-Fi important? Certainly. And it's becoming more so to travelers each and every day. We spotted a survey a year or so ago where an impressive amount of people suggested that Wi-Fi was about the more important asset in an airport, possibly even more important than a solid selection of food. Now a new Boingo survey is digging a little deeper into Wi-Fi usage at airports. If you aren't familiar with that name, Boingo is a hotspot company that installs paid Wi-Fi in a variety of places; most notably, airport terminals around the globe. Buy a single Boingo account, and you can online on any of... Read more...
It just got a little easier to hop online while cruising along in the friendly skies. Boingo announced today a new partnership with Aircell, the company that's responsible for bringing in-flight Wi-Fi to the vast majority of U.S. airliners that use it today. It's an interesting arrangement, and it's one that we suspect has more to do with marketing than anything else. Basically, the new deal allows existing Boingo subscribers to login and purchase a Gogo account with their existing username and password. If you aren't aware, Boingo provides access to a great many Wi-Fi hotspots in airports and... Read more...
