It was starting to feel like the saga that wouldn't end, and honestly, like Hulu was puffing itself up way, way too much. Now, after much discussion, it appears that Hulu's owners will retain that ownership, and a sale won't be on the table. While the likes of Yahoo! were rumored to have placed bids on the video delivery service, a press release this week confirmed that 21st Century Fox, NBCUniversal and The Walt Disney Company will be maintaining their stakes in Hulu. Sorry, bidders! Together, the three owners will place a cash infusion of $750 million into Hulu in order to propel future growth.... Read more...
Electronic Arts (EA) began its pursuit of Take-Two Interactive in February, but was immediately rebuffed.  Through all these months, Take-Two has said that EA's offer undervalued the company.  But while Electronic Arts let its tender offer expire in August, both companies indicated that the two continued talks in private.  On Sunday, EA issued a terse press release saying the deal was off for good. The decision was made "after careful consideration, including a management presentation and review of other due diligence materials," Electronic Arts (EA) said in a brief statement.EA,... The paperless office was forecast years ago - and never happened.  But the global airlines body IATA has set the stage for the paperless air transit system, by placing what it called the last order for paper tickets, ever. "In just 278 more days, the paper ticket will become a collector's item," said Giovanni Bisignani, director general of the International Air Transport Association. The changeover from paper would not only cut airlines' costs by $9 for every traveller but would also mean the industry -- criticized by environmentalists for its part in global... Read more...
The term shill bidding, sometimes with only one l, is defined as somebody who bids on their own goods and/or services being auctioned in an attempt to drive up the price.  It's forbidden on eBay, and is even illegal in many areas.  That doesn't always deter people and/or organizations from doing it, but when they get caught here's a good example of what can happen: "An American jewellery firm EMH Group was fined $400,000 by the New York state attorney general’s office for allegedly bidding in its own auctions on eBay.com to increase the prices by some 20 per cent, according to media reports."... Sony has recently cut $100 off its BDP-S300 Blu-ray DVD player, which has fallen to an unprecedented price of $499, about half of what it cost six months ago at its introduction. The price cut comes in response to growing demand for new technology and lower production costs, according to Sony. However, Sony's rival Toshiba is asking less than $300 for its next generation HD DVD player. "Both companies have struggled to win customers for their respective systems as the battle of the formats is causing confusion, according to analysts." "They believe customers will... Read more...
