One of the reasons to give thanks today is for not having to brave the crowds or camp outside your local Best Buy to score some hot deals on electronics. Yes, we realize it's only Thursday, but like most retailers, Best Buy has kicked off its Black Friday sale early -- really early -- and to the chain's credit, many of the deals are available online. So while your less savvy neighbor Joe is slipping his way down the winter roads to wait in long lines, you can kick back in your pajamas with a cup of coffee as you score the same deals as him, but with much less hassle. At present, some of Best Buy's... One of the risks of being an early adopter of technology is that at any given moment, a price cut is bound to appear. In fact, that's an inevitability in most cases. Be that as it may, it's still a gut punch when it happens, especially so quickly, as is the case with LG's G Watch. Having only been on the market since July, Best Buy just slashed the price of the G Watch to $160. That's down from the smartwatch's original MSRP of $229 and it applies to both the black and white models. It's not known if the price cut will turn into a temporary one or if Best Buy is trying to clear out inventory in... Read more...
It used to be that we'd rely on Twitter user @evleaks (real name Evan Blass) to inevitably post press shots of unannounced or otherwise unreleased products, along with with specs and other details ahead of schedule. But with online retailers jumping the gun these days, we can see why Blass went into retirement. Even Best Buy is prone is the occasional goof up, such was the case when it posted a product page for Motorola's Moto 360 smartwatch. Back in May, a French-language website claimed the Moto 360 was headed to retail in July and that it would cost 249 euros (around $340 in U.S. currency).... Read more...
There's money to be saved if you don't always have to own the latest and greatest flagship version of a product. For instance, if you head over to Best Buy's website or pop into one of the electronic chain's brick-and-mortar locations, you can walk away with the original (and still pretty snazzy) HTC One (M7) for a dollar, provided you ink a two-year service agreement with Sprint, Verizon, or AT&T. The discounted price is in effect today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday) only, so if you're on the fence, you'll have to decide relatively quick. You'll also have to decide on a color -- the $1 pricing... Read more...
Without getting into a long-winded debate about the hardware and platform differences between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the main advantage Sony's console has over Microsoft's is that it's a $100 less expensive at $399 versus $499. Of course, the Xbox One comes with a second generation Kinect motion controller, so while the price difference isn't an arbitrary one, it's a forced purchase since you can't buy the console sans Kinect. That said, a temporary price drop just took away the PS4's cost advantage, at least in part. At present, both Best Buy and Walmart are selling the Xbox One on sale... Read more...
Time and again, we bear witness to the fact that if you wait long enough, just about any smartphone will eventually reach the low, low price of free. Such phenomena even applies to iPhone models, the latest example being the iPhone 5C, which Best Buy is offering at no cost to customers who sign up for a two-year service contract with AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon. The iPhone 5C was never terribly expensive to begin with. Pricing started at $99 (on-contract) when it debuted three months ago, and while that's still the going rate if you purchase it online at Apple, Best Buy's been reducing the price... Read more...
If you're a fan of the HTC One but wish it had a bigger, phablet-sized display, you're in luck. HTC's enlarged One Max is gearing up for a retail launch. You can already pre-order the device on Best Buy's website for $250 with a two-year service contract, and according to the electronics chain, it's scheduled to arrive at Sprint on November 15, 2013 (this Friday). Sprint's been curiously quiet about the impending launch, though the wireless carrier did post a software update page for the HTC One Max on its website. The November 15th launch date is mentioned twice on that page, so barring any big... Read more...
The Internet has made it tough for some brick-and-mortar businesses to stay afloat, and that's especially true in the field of electronics. There's a trail of electronics retailers that fell by the wayside and either closed shop entirely or were bought out, such as CompUSA, Good Guys, and Circuit City. Best Buy has managed to defy the odds up to this point, but it's been a series of challenges. Will Best Buy be around in another 10 years? That depends on how it handles itself between now and then. One interesting development is that Samsung is said to be in talks with Best Buy about...something.... Read more...
Google recently revealed the worst kept secret on the web by formally introducing its second generation Nexus 7 tablet built by ASUS. It's thinner, faster, boasts a better display, and is supposed to be available to purchase July 30, 2013. Don't want to wait? You may not have to, depending on where you live. There have been reports that those who pre-ordered a new Nexus 7 from Best Buy have already received shipping notifications. Intrigued, we hit up Best Buy's website and sure enough, the electronics retailer is selling the updated Nexus 7 as if it's in stock (there's no mention of a pre-order).... Read more...
There's no better time to shop for a Mac than during the back-to-school shopping season. As we recently reported, Apple is offering college students up to $200 off select Mac systems plus a $100 App Store gift card, however you don't have to go through Apple to get a discount, nor do you need to be a student. Best Buy sent us a note letting us know it temporarily slashed the price of two MacBook Pro models by $200. The 13.3-inch MacBook Pro with Core i5 processor clocked at 2.5GHz, 4GB of RAM, and 500GB hard drive is now $1,000, on sale from $1,200, and the 13.3-inch MacBook Pro with Core i7 processor... BlackBerry's Z10 handset came out of the gate strong, notching quick sales, including a single order of 1 million devices from an "established partner." The Z10 was also included in what BlackBerry deemed its largest ever corporate order of BlackBerry 10 (BB10) devices (Q10 handsets were also included in that order). With all that being the case, it's a little curious that the Z10 keeps going down in price. At Best Buy, you can pick up a Z10 for as low as $50 with a new 2-year service agreement with Verizon Wireless. AT&T subscribers have it even better -- the device is free with a 2-year commitment.... Best Buy is renewing an iPhone trade-in promotion in which you can waltz into your local Best Buy location, hand over your iPhone 4 or 4S handset, and essentially receive a free iPhone 5. You actually earn a credit of up to $150, which you can then use the cover the cost of a 16GB iPhone 5 in either black or white. The 16GB iPhone 5 runs $200 (subsidized) at Best Buy, minus a $50 instant rebate that's in effect until June 29. You may recall Best Buy held this same promotion earlier this month, on June 1st, to be exact. While the electronics chain isn't disclosing how many older iPhone models it... Read more...
